Radio
89 3/4 ton. If the radio is turned you can just get 2 stations with a lot of noise. Is the radio shot or is the antenna not making contact>

Re: Radio
If you're talking about the stock radio I suspect it's the receiver. That is mounted down by the gas pedal. I really liked the stock radio/ cassette player in its day, but when the receiver died (with static like you describe) I went aftermarket and installed a unit in the cassette player spot. I installed a pocket in the dash in place of the controller.

Re: Radio
Thanks. I have a pocket on hand to fill the gap so guess I will go with the after market.

Re: Radio
If you search online there is a place in south florida that repairs the receivers for a reasonable price if you want to keep the stock radio. I had it done a year ago and mine works perfect in my 90 ss.

Re: Radio
It may be the antenna. I replaced my factory head unit and it wouldn't pick up any more than the factory unit. Replaced the antenna and it works great. In my case I was replacing the whole system anyway. But, antennas do go bad.

Re: Radio
This is likely the outfit that NJRC10 mentioned. Scroll to the near the bottom of the page and look for 'Pick Up Trucks'.

Re: Radio
Well it was the antenna. I Just got back to chevys after several years of Toyota Land Cruisers and was not aware that this thing was in 3 pieces. Installed new Pioneer and could not determine where the ant. wire was. One post mentioned the receiver down by the gas pedal. Aha! there was the antenna wire not even connected. Plugged it in to the new unit and nothing. Picked one from the scrap pile and radio worked fine. I wanted a cd plus mp3 so nothing lost.
Thanks for the responses. |
