Exhaust and headers

I have a really nice solid exhaust system under my truck. I want to put headers on it and probably 40 series flow masters, but the pipes that are on it are only 2 inch. If I install headers with this sized piping, will it sound poor?
I'm looking for a deeper tone with the header "ping". I really dont want to have all new exhaust bent, because thats going to be a bit pricey. Any thoughts on what it will sound like or if I can use part of the exhaust system I already have and just run some larger pipe on part of it? It has a mild cam in it with a decent lope and it sounds good with the cherry bombs that I have on it with ram horn manifolds, but I think it could sound alot better.

Re: Exhaust and headers

I think you'll find it sounds a bit deeper with a set of longtubes even with the 2" pipes. If it were me, I'd give it a shot and roll with that setup until I could afford the new exhaust. It wouldn't sound any worse.

Re: Exhaust and headers

The bigger the exhaust the more noise you can make but...why bother with it? You could add headers and 2.5" pipes to 2.5" in and out mufflers then add reducers out to your remaining 2".
