6.5" wheels on a 4x4?

Will 16" x 6.5" rims fit and clear on a '69 K20?

Assuming the correct bolt pattern (8x6.5"), no problem. I believe the stock 16s were 6" wide. The Ford steelies on my K20 are 7" wide with tons of clearance.

And assuming the centre bore is the same.

^^ Yeah, but it seems most non-GM wheels have larger bores and they work just fine. In my limited experience, I have not seen or heard of 8-lug wheels with a smaller bore than GM.

The bigger bore wheels might have the right pattern but IIRc the chevy's are hub centric wheels and need the centre bore to match the hub for strength and safety.
If you use a wheel with a bigger bore then there's a chance you can wallow out the lug holes.
Some info here on that.

OEM wheels were typically hub-centric, and aftermarket wheels -- to allow for more applications -- are typically lug-centric. My K20 left the factory with hub-centrics, and I have been running lug-centrics for at least 35 years without any problems. I don't see how the lug holes can get wallowed out unless someone fails to tighten the lug nuts, in which case there would be problems with hub-centrics also. But I get your point (and the linked article) in extreme cases which are likely rare. I think for most of us, most of the time, it won't make any difference, based on my decades of use and I just haven't heard of anyone having lug-related problems with aftermarket wheels. If someone was concerned about it though, hub-centric rings can be used with lug-centric wheels.
