Re: Fade to Black 71

Well after about a 4 month hiatus we are back. Now I know it's not much but hey the old man has to start somewhere. So he's been working on getting the power steering pump bracket painted, mounted, installed etc...I don't have any good pictures of that plus it's not that exciting. He also has been working on getting the seats mounted by making new brackets and installing everything. The only thing left on the brackets is adding a skirt that goes around the brackets to enclose them.

This is what he's been working on that has been consuming his time. This is the third one he's made. The first was for my son, the second for charity, and now this one for his newest grandson. Him and a friend designed it on the computer and his friend cut out all the pieces on his 3D CNC wood router, the machine itself is awesome.

I really like how the seats don't stick up into the view of the back window.

Re: Fade to Black 71

So I need some help here, the old man and I are having a friendly competion about the wheels. Now I know this is his truck but eventually it'll be mine...

The good news is he agrees they need to be black. He really likes the old school Torq Thurst wheels that are black with the chrome lip, which is a tried and true wheel. I just think they are a little dated.

However, I think if he goes with a 5 spoke wheel he's going to go with the Rocket Racing Hypershot that we'll have powder coated gloss black while keeping the chrome lip.

Now this would my choice, it's more of a modern wheel and I think they are awesome. But like I said, this is his truck so in the end it'll be his decision but I'm just curious what everyone else thinks. Thanks.

You stated in your post the word Eventually, but not right now. I would go with your dads choice. Remember you only have a little time to make him happy. Make the most of it.

Yes, more than likely we will get the ones he wants.

I totally agree, like I said this is his truck and he gets the final say. He told me if I could persuade he might think about it.

Re: Fade to Black 71

Well I just realized it's been quite some time since we last posted. A few things have been going on and we've been quite busy with the addition of my second son, which was pretty awesome, and my old man working his crazy busy hours like normal. Even though he's been working like crazy he's been able to get a few things done. He took the truck back to the painter and had the final buff done on it so now we are in the home stretch on getting this thing put back together. When he went to pick up his truck he took a friend's El Camino over to get its restoration started. Luckily he owns a custom truck business so they worked out a little trading.

With the windows installed the old man said it totally changed the feel of the truck. He also got the door handles powder coated and installed.

Re: Fade to Black 71

Christmas in March, the finally round of parts made there way to the old mans house this past week, so now the fun begins.

In the last few pictures you can see the tires that we were trying on for size were just a tad small so we took them back and order one bigger size of 255/55/18. So these should get mounted up on Monday and we'll go from there and see how they look. All in all things are moving along quickly and hopefully in a few weeks we'll be able to fire this thing up!!

The truck looks great! What is the color of the door handles? hard to tell with camera flash.

Re: Fade to Black 71

Winner winner chicken dinner we have the final tire size 255/55/18. They look so much better then the first ones. Slowly but surely things are getting marked off. Here before long the old man will be driving the heck out of this thing.

Re: Fade to Black 71

So yet again we have another long break between posts, however my dad has made some great progress. We are getting to the fun stages of this project the finishing touches etc...Finishing the doors, spray in bed liner, exhaust. Pictures aren't of the completed exhaust, however it did get done today so hopefully soon my dad will send those pictures. And as for the spray in bed liner, we used the raptor bed liner just like we did on the under side of the cab and bed. Unfortunately we totally forgot to get the completed pictures, so he'll be sending those pictures as well.

That Raptor liner is an awesome product and we will use it on other projects without and hesitation.

Re: Fade to Black 71

Here are a few more pictures from the old man. A few showing the final exhaust pictures, however I do believe we are going to wrap the pipes with heat wrap while it's running next to the gas tank just for safe measures. And finally a few of the completed Raptor liner and single picture of him starting to line the cab with some heat shield. Thanks for looking.

Re: Fade to Black 71

The old man has been filling fluids and doing some final checks etc...He said it popped off first try. Still needs timed and tuned but sounds pretty awesome at idle and with a cell phone camera. He plans on getting a better video of it outside. Don't mind the blue dust on the bed, we still need to get everything cleaned up from sanding the bed before the bed liner.

Re: Fade to Black 71

Another step closer to getting this thing done. The stereo is finished and the center console modified to fit since we moved the gas tank. We also cut off the upper portion of the console and used that space to create a tray for cell phones, wallets etc... We also got the back filler panel finished and we think it turned out pretty well. That fabric is the same that will cover the center console.

Re: Fade to Black 71

So again it's been a little while since we've updated but a lot has gotten done and it should be done on Friday. My old man is dying to drive this thing. He's been hard at it getting the interior finalized, windows tinted (however not in these current pics) etc...It's getting aligned tonight and the final console install is this weekend. The console turned out perfect with the upholstery. I believe in the upper tray of the the console it'll have two 12 volt outlets, and either 2 or 3 USB ports for charging and what not. As of now he's got the console mocked into place so he could place the seat belts and do a few other minor details. By Monday when he picks it up it's off to the races. Oh, and he couldn't contain himself, he said he just had to smoke the tires "real quick!" I don't blame him one bit though. It's been 12 years in the making since he started his original 1948 project so he's ready to get on the open road and drive!! Finally, here is a quick walk around video he just sent me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtuvpCrBgtQ

Hope you all enjoy.
