205 Input Shaft Spline Depth

Just curious-

My nv4500/205 combo is set up using a long input shaft with a AA adapter (spacer ring). If I determine that this setup will require driveshaft mods (longer front/shorter rear) I may consider losing the adapter and swapping the long input shaft for a short input shaft as it may be cheaper in the end.

I'm wondering if its possible to just cut the long shaft down to the short shaft length. I have access to a full machine shop, I would do it on the lathe. My question is, does anyone have a long shaft (32 spline) handy that they could verify how deep the internal splines are? If I end up losing the splines in the process, obviously this wont be an option.

Thanks, Mike

Re: 205 Input Shaft Spline Depth

if I recall nope . only first half splined.

and what combo is coming out ?

my buddys truck we swapped a 465/round 6 205 for a nv4500/aa ring / same round 6 205 back in and was about a fat 1/8" longer combo . if he needed shorter it would of been swap input to do no spacer.

Re: 205 Input Shaft Spline Depth

I swear i seen in someone's build thread on here that they did cut their long shaft down and debur'd and beveled the end. They showed full pics of the assembly. Skim through Dirty Larry's build thread maybe? Who ever it was they took detailed pics I remember.

Or maybe what they were showing was proof that it can't be done. I dont remember.
