Not ready to throw in the towel yet. 5.3 ?

I want to make this short
I'm out the driveway and find out I have a broke piston ???? Previous owner miss up

Well now I'm shopping for a 5.3. I found one 2006 5.3 with 70000 miles complete pull out running for 1,200 I been reading for a few days and there's a lot of good info but too much confuses the crap out of me lol. 1st with the mounts. A bunch of different ways to go with if I can buy the right ones instead of making would be great I don't mind going forward or backwards as long my tran fits where it suppose too and if dont have to trim or cut the frame would be great but don't mind if I have to Ima try to pull as much stuff as I can off the truck. Are there any pros or cons that any one can help me out or make sure I grab Thx for any help

How to break a piston like that?
Brand new chevy engines are about the best deal on the planet.
Roughly $1300 to $1900.

I seen some around that But I'm going to keep the truck forever hopefully and would make it my daily driver I work 15 min away. I was thinking a 5.3 would be more reliable and fuel efficient

Good choice. My brother has 2000 5.3 LM7 5300 vortec with about 230,000 miles and still runs like new w/ good power and good mpg.

5.3 is the way to go. Check out the LSX section under Engine & Drivetrain on the board here.

Get the dirty dingo mounts. Things you could get off the truck: o2 sensors, intake (unless you want a cold air "intake") maf, fuse block and wiring harness (if you want to do it on the cheap and not buy a custom harness) that is all I can think of... But definitely check out the lsx side of the forum as well as ls1tech. Oh and 1200 seems high unless it's coming with a trans. I got my complete 4.8 for 600.

The lsx swap is great but don't think it will be cheap. There is exhaust (500), there is fuel system (300 is cheap), there is gauges (500), plus the motor and trans. I did the swap with a 6.0 and 4l60 and love it. Just get the lsx to sbc motor mounts.

Well keep ya posted I also been reading about bdw or dbc so I might look for a 2002 5.3 If anyone has any info on one local that would be great. I searched all of CL but no luck there. Re: Not ready to throw in the towel yet. 5.3 ?

Parents bought new 4 bolt 350 vortec L31 w/ pan, VC, TC and GM warrenty shipped to door for $1940; seems like good deal.

TN machine shop owner just bought a good 5.3 for $500 and said he would sell for a little extra dough. Maybe you can find similar deal in TX.
