47-55.1 Was the steering column rubber mounted up top?

Hi guys I have a non stock steering column in my '54 I think it's a late 50s / early 60s Impala or truck column, anyway it had some funny plastic washers/spacers up top where it mounts to underneath the dash with the half circle brackets, that can't be stock, so my question is, were the stock steering columns rubber mounted up high in that area to absorb any of the vibrations, or is this some previous owner footzpagh or did she just use some plastic as a spacer to build up around those small bushings that go around the vertical bolts?

that is stock unless original owner of my truck did the same thing.

This cast unit is what I have always seen with the stock column in AD trucks. This one being in the 1-1/2 ton my my daughter has laid claim to.

2 different angles as I couldn't decide which one I wanted to show.

The later columns are a bit fatter than the stock column.

I'm thinking that what you have there is a pipe clamp that was pretty common to snag from the hardware store to hold a column in place.

as mr 48's picture shows, there is a rubber strip that goes between the shaft and both parts of the cast bracket. It helps keep the squeaks down when the shaft moves. also, Ive seen fiber or rubber washers used on the mounting bolts, again to help with the squeaking noise. don't know if they are stock. it does look like you have some kind of pipe clamp holding the shaft to the dash.

Greg...what you have IS the correct mount ...there is a rubber piece that's supposed to be in there between the column and the brackets...

ha ha, thanks it does does look like something like that but mine is a legit steering column bracket
