Outside visor on 56'

I like the look and did a search on the forum, seems like they don't fit very well. Any input from those who installed one. Also how do they attach? screws, rivets?

Re: Outside visor on 56'

If your truck came from the factory then it was held in by screws.
If not, then you can choose screws or rivets.

Mine came from Classic Parts with screws to attach. Not installed yet, so not sure if it will fit correctly. Would like to hear what others who have put them on have to say also.

Re: Outside visor on 56'

They were not a factory item or at least the trucks never left the factory with one installed. They were dealer installed to boost the profit as the trinkets had more profit in them when installed than the truck did at times.
Locally I never saw one on a TF truck as the local guys at the time didn't want the tacky things and the local dealers didn't push a lot of junk off on the customers like dealers in other areas did.

Re: Outside visor on 56'

Put me down as not a fan of visors on Task Force trucks.

I've seen a few that looked good but mostly they don't fit right and; in my view; are more appropriate on the Art Deco and Advanced Design trucks. Just my $.02.

unless your vertically challenged, it's hard enough to see traffic lights in a non-visor cab

Re: Outside visor on 56'

Here's the visor on my beater. I like the look, the fit is OK, seam sealer might have a cleaner look. Ogre is 100% correct about the visability at stoplights. You have to lean forward to see 'em but I like the look. I installed with the provided screws, seemed stable at 50mph, hope to see how it does at 70mph in the near future

Re: Outside visor on 56'

It works on TPI Muncie's truck because it has all the correct pieces to go along with the visor for the total look. The truck is a complete package where everything works together as one unit.

Still for most guys trucks with oversize billet wheels, black wall tires or other modern look pieces the visor looks as out of place as Autozone chrome port holes and flame decals.

Hello there, I bought mine from Classic Parts and I secured mine with screws, welding and bondo to smooth it out. Bondo and smoothing out is not what most do. I like them a lot, so that's my $.02

Re: Outside visor on 56'

I love mine, gives the truck that lower looks. Mine is an original came with the truck, installed with screws. I also have an after market one I bought a couple years ago but I tell you this after market stuff is not the same as original, much thinner tin and not quite shape the same and looks very flimsy. Yes its a bit hard to see traffic light but I still like it. Had the truck at 80 mph and its still there. It fits the cab really good.

Nice work! Too late for me to do any bondo on mine, as it's finished.

Looks good, I think your right, these trucks look lower with the visor. I always felt that the windshields were a little bit too out of proportion to the rest of the body. The visor makes it look just right. I plan on using a traffic light viewer anyways. I think my seats are a little lower than stock, so maybe I won't even need one.

Re: Outside visor on 56'

I like period style accessories that were available when these trucks were new so I guess I'm in the "I like them" group. Having it gives me an excuse to buy one of the dash mounted prizims to to help me see traffic lights, LOL. Like the others, I used the screws that came with the visor. I would advise having someone to help with the installation. Also, my windshield was out when I installed mine which made it easier, but that is not necessary. I removed it when I took the truck to the glass place to get a new windshield installed.

Almost forgot: TPIMUNCIE's truck is The BOMB. That's what I mean when I say I like the period accessories and options. I love that truck.

Hey Hover, as I said, most don't blend the visor into the roof, so don't worry about that. With those big windshields, I think the visor gives the appearance of a slight roof chop. If seeing the traffic light is a problem, do as I do, stop a bit farther back. You'll still get thru the light.

Your right about the lower looking roof with the visor, the more pictures I look at, I really notice that.
