Metal to metal scraping, bad drive shaft hanger or support bearing.

Took the truck for a good Spring ride on Wednesday and heard a metal scraping sound. Sound went away while throttling up and came back when coasting.

Thought it might be brakes or rear end or universal joints but it turned out to be the drive shaft hanger (support) bearing mount. The rubber was worn out causing the drive shaft to scrape on the hanger bearing housing.

Put some grease on it to stop the scraping sound and drove it home. I pulled the drive shaft Wednesday evening. When I dropped the Universal Joint off the rear end, rusty metal needles dropped out so it was time for new universal joints anyway.

Dropped it off Thursday morning and in two hours I picked it up with new hanger bearing, three universals (with zerk fittings) and balancing.
$225.00 for the repair.

Friday morning installed the drive shaft and test drive. Hopefully, I get 20+ years from this one.
