Re: shipping a windshield

Their usually better than ups on beating up stuff. I had a windshield for my Nomad (years ago) shipped truck freight, box was totally falling off the w/s thought for sure it was broke. I was the lucky one, not a scratch. As good as you are of finding nos parts maybe you will find another. Good luck--------

Shipping a windshield is gutsy no matter who you use. Some make it, some don't.

Re: shipping a windshield

We have 4 windshields for a 68 Firebird build because everytime we order one, it shows up blemished (not ruined, just not "new"). They keep telling us just to keep them because of the return shipping cost and hassle. It really is a crap shoot.

But that said....anyone need a firebird windshield lol?

Re: shipping a windshield

Wow, that sucks! I think if that was the only NOS windshield around, I would have insisted it have a wood crate built around it. That box, no way it wasn't going to be broken.

Sorry to see it happen.

Re: shipping a windshield

my condolences.. got a little lump in my throat just thinking about it..

the only thing good that can come from this is the lesson..

capt. hindsight [^ Mike too ] says: shipping anything that rare and fragile needs copious padding in a wood crate..

good luck in your search for another, hope you find one or at least a good used that will polish up like new!

Re: shipping a windshield

Or next time tell me where it is so I can see if I can't go get it for you. If it fits inside the cab of my truck it goes to the top bunk. Ive even unbolted the passenger seat to bring the bigger stuff in.

Re: shipping a windshield

Oooh heartbreak! Awesome job on finding it. Can I ask if you hunted for it, or did you get lucky and have it land in your lap? Somehow I know you are gonna beat me to a middle mat too.
P.S. just curious - does the busted glass have a date code?

i think it was loaded and just drop at the end as it was being slid on the truck. or the whole side was bent you can see the point of impact kinda looks like it was bent in half now that i wipe'd the tears away and can seen it clearly.the box is only 50# really light, plus it arrived upside down not sure if that matters just something i noticed.

Ok, wait... OMG, no really... hold on.. You found a correct NOS middle mat for a suburban??!! I am in disbelief! What's this about cutting/fitting a COE mat? Why do that when you have the real deal? Or please clarify ...

Re: shipping a windshield

Very sorry about your experience Lepimp, Was it this one in the below link ? If so , PPG wasn't making windshields for our trucks except for aftermarket replacements. Libbey-Owens-Ford Company (LOF) was the original supplier. Still , it looked like the older better USA made replacement. Not sure what it would cost to ship this way but theres an UBER transport company out there called "ROADIE" , its a person you hire to ship your items cross country, same setup as Uber or LYFT , track them on your phone app. I used this with a 6 foot tall 1930s Porcelain thermometer I recently bought. Arrived in perfect shape , was not packaged at all and the driver was one of the nicest guys you ever want to meet.
