Re: My 1972 Chevy shortwide build REDUX

Made a round trip of about 20 miles with it.. I for sure need to get the swap bar and front shocks on before I go out again. Been a while but it is great being back to being able to drive one again!

Re: My 1972 Chevy shortwide build REDUX

I dont think it would make it that far, not yet anyways.

I am going to be pulling the transmission out of my '89 model, a built 700r4, to put in this pickup. Putting in a 4l80e in the '89 so it should be a good swap all around, just a lot of work! But having that extra gear will for sure help me want to drive it more!

Re: My 1972 Chevy shortwide build REDUX

Had to replace the hei module and in the process, the pickup coil wire broke. Went ahead and switched to a different distributor and put the new hei module in it.

Installed the front sway bar this last weekend, and had some help redoing my fill snout for the gas. Moved it to the wheel tub for I could get a faster/better flow of gas into the tank.

Also noticed the sticker that is on the transmission, it is on there fairly well and doesn't look to be a cheap sticker. I don't know if it is actually a TCI or not, but it does shift good/firm. So now I might be able to recoup some cash on this transmission to buy a 4l80 controller.

Re: My 1972 Chevy shortwide build REDUX

Trying to get the wife adjusted to the life.. Had her drive the pickup up the driveway and around the bend and back. She stayed on the property, didn't actually get out on the highway with it, but a good first drive for her and the kids.

:ninja edit: Forgot to mention that I also found out that the pickup has a posi, and apparently it is set a little tight.

Re: My 1972 Chevy shortwide build REDUX

Rear brakes are now officially working again. Front sway bar installed, checked front end parts..

Started working some on the cab that I am going to put on this pickup, needs more work then I initially thought, but it is still very doable.

Been working on it off and on the past few months, still a beater. Slowing coming together again.

Re: My 1972 Chevy shortwide build REDUX

This weekend I went from a 4.11 rearend ratio to a 3.07, mostly a forced move since the spider gears blew up and took everything out in the old rearend. Nothing but excitement around here!
