road less traveled

i have a 67 chevy a thought id take the road less traveled.
it involves a big turbo, air bages and a a lot of power
so far my plans for the truck are to have it on bags 7 or 8" up front with 6-7 rear. 10 gal air. 18" rims 14 wide rear and 9 front. exhaust will be 4" piping to 5-6" twin miter staks no higher than the cab. swaybars front and rear. paint will be semi gloss black with red pinstriping and red accents. dodge dakota R&P ( already mounted) with heims for outers and oviously the 6bt and 47re trans. its kinda weird how the cummins fits, all i did was make mtor mounts and cut my cab floor and it fit..... its all the add ons that dont fit lol.
oh yeah the turbo is where my heater core should go so i found a 58 one and cleaned it up. more pics to come.

should be fun, got any questions, i got answers
will update shortly.

Re: road less traveled

That is looking good. Is that a remote radiator and fan that you have in the rear? That is a great idea....Do you think it will have enough cooling capacity? I am wondering if I need to do something like that...please tell me more about that...I like the intercooler piping and covers on the motor. What turbo is that? How much HP are you expecting?

Re: road less traveled

im shooting for 350-400 for hp, and its a he351 turbo off a 05-07 cummins, its a 9cm2 ext. housing and a 60mm intake wheel, i should be able to push 35-40psi cool air. the rad in the back is for my trans, i welded a thermo fan switch into my tans pan to kick the fan on and off. i made the stock 1st gen rad fit the chevy rad suport. im running a full manual auto trans and didnt have the room up front for the trans cooler so moved it to the back and made a scoop and fan bracket.

my non IC cummins has bigger injectors than the IC trucks and also a bigger cam so i can make bout 400hp before injectors need to be upgraded.

just bent up my center consel so more pics to come.

Re: road less traveled

Rideharder,

Do you have any build pictures of you stuffing that cummins in there? I am currently do research for my own project and need to know what to expect. It seems that I am going to lose more cab space then I thought with that transmission.

Would a body lift compensate for most of it? As i am not interested in going low... but high

Very nice job with that console by the way, certain some thing i was looking for as well

Re: road less traveled

well, the cummins fits just like a six, no mods to fit it in there. besides notching the firewall for the back exhaust.(wasnt needed) its the turbo and other stuff thats the problem my 4" exhaust down pipe hit the firewall, my turbo is where the heater went, i moded my radsuport to fit the dodge rad, the intercooler is where my hood latch should be, and the trans sits a bit high but a big hump floor would clear it in my situation..... i just made a huge center consol for storage and to take up the gap betwen the 2 seats.
i also made my motor sit as low as i could.. in a 4x4 there would be no issue lifting the motor up higher besides loosing some more floor room.

the only motor fit up pics i got, i made my motor mounts and weled them to my front x member( used the stock dodge mounts)

Re: road less traveled

Thank you sir... These pictures are greatly appreciated.

I am looking for a Long Horn and there is one on Vancouver Island that i am thinking about. I am trying to do all my research before i buy the truck just to make sure I can get what I want out of the project.

Your truck is going to be a twin to what I want to build... right up to the stacks

Why didn't you throw a 3" body lift on it to compensate for the floor because it looks like that's what I am going to have to do... That oil pan looks like it hangs below the cross member and I can;t have that here... Not in Alberta let alone Edmonton, I'd mangle it just getting out of my alley.

I look forward to following this build...

Re: road less traveled

its only 1/2" below and i wanted to be low so no body lift, plus it will be on bags one day so ill put something like trailer hitch balls on all for corners or something to prevent me from lowering my truck onto my pan also. and correction....... yours will be the twin.. mine the original lol

Re: road less traveled

Great project.... I love the cummins and put one in a ramcharger. Tub out the rear and you'll have a serious smoker. It will be the chevy version of the dodge little red express.

Awesome!!

Cool build, I am doing a Cummins conversion myself right now.

Where did you get your intercooler tubes?

Re: road less traveled

the tubes are stock dodge tubes 96+ and i just cut and welded them to fit, the intake on the motor i made my self with some tubing and a chopsaw. as for tires.... i have my plans.... im thinkin some 355x40/50x18 rear and 235x40/50x18 front. with the power im hopin for and the lack or weight in the rear it may be hard to keep the rear from spinning. hence the fuel tank /2 batt's/airbag parts and a in box floor storage box all by the rear wheels.

Re: road less traveled

Poetry and trucks, why not? Your thread title made me think of this:

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveller, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference

...Robert Frost
