Mine is only a 48" wide box. I used to always get a new over the rail box for my DDs, then someone pointed this out so I didn't have to get a new box for each truck. I ended up with an extra one, so it went in the 64. I like your idea of the pucks and plan to do it with mine now. Love so many of these threads with kool ideas.

Re: toolboxes or other storage containers in your trucks

I've been banging around the idea of hinging the rear stepside fenders at the bottom so the top swings out to reveal a toolbox. Looks like there's lots of space in there at the top.

Re: toolboxes or other storage containers in your trucks

Bought this from the scrap yard for a pack of sugar and a 160 teabags.

Going to fit it under my load bed after cleaning and painting.

Just a small toolbox.

Once painted and mounted, I will also add some underseal to protect it more.

I finally got around to painting my old tool box & installed it after work this week. I was tired of not having a secure place for tools, etc.

Re: toolboxes or other storage containers in your trucks

Under coated.

Did manage to break one integral hinge, but will probable bolt one in there late, or leave it as is, seeing as it will carry no load and two are still good.

Was a bit cold to paint out in the garage last night, so brought it indoors.

Plan was black (could change) but once mounted sideways under the load bed, it may look quite neat with the red agains everything else being black.

Only springs are red under truck.

DaddyOh, its an older weather guard I've had forever. Not sure of model #, all the writing on the sticker has worn off. It's 48"W x 20" D x 19"H, I put rubber grommets under it to hold it up off the wood but it still flushes out with top of bed rail. I like the "older box painted to match the cab" look better than the diamond plate on old trucks. Diamond plate looks to contemporary for me.

Thanks, been looking for a mini truck, flush mount box...somewhere to throw groceries when it's raining.

might do the trick, thanks

Re: toolboxes or other storage containers in your trucks

At local show picked up a luggage/storage box that according to seller came off 30's touring car. Can't confirm that but I liked the box and was going to paint same as my truck. After cleaning it up decided it was too beat up to paint so I finished it like this.

Re: toolboxes or other storage containers in your trucks

Here’s my 66 C10 short Stepside tool box.....

Mine is cut and mounted into the drivers side inner fender well. Bottom of inner fender has a nice shelf worked in and it has all been sealed from the elements. Beats carrying tools in the cab or loose in the bed for someone with sticky fingers to help themselves too. I wish I could take credit for this fine bit of hillbilly engineering, but the gentleman I purchased truck from took a great amount of time metal working the box into the fender.

That IS a nice installation. Handy without being in the way.

Re: toolboxes or other storage containers in your trucks

I bought the smallest jobox tractor supply had then cut the feet off and sectioned several inches out of it to reduce the overall height of the box (side handles gone). After welding it back together and mudding the welds seams smooth, I shot it with some one step from napa that they mixed up original paint codes. It's mounted on 1.5" rubber pucks from ace hardware that are set back from the edges to give it a floating box look. Inside is where I have the airtank, compressors and ridetech ecu stuff hidden. It'll get pinstriped crazy in one of the upcoming weekends.

All the wires and airlines enter from the bottom, 2" access hole cut in the wood and the bottom of the box.
