Wow that was some serious work on the bed sides. I can relate to how much time all that work takes. I'm about to finally be past my bed.

You are really knocking this build out. Keep the updates coming.

did I miss a video of that new engine running?

Thanks, yeah it was very time consuming. Just a little bit of cussing. I can do pretty good on body work but sometimes it take me 3 times as long as a professional.

The video is on my phone. I'll see if I can get it transferred to photobucket

Re: Project "Captain Insano"

I just found your thread and went through it all from page 1. You've made some nice progress so far. I applaud you for making the effort with the trans. I don't know if I'd want to attempt it myself, but you admitting to never doing it before gives me a little hope that I might be able to do it too. I'm more likely to tackle a rear end rebuild before a trans though. Never done either and it's been over a decade since I rebuilt an engine.

Keep up the good work, and posting pics.

Re: Project "Captain Insano"

Thanks for all the nice comments. It's getting close and exciting. I've put in so many days and hrs working on it that I forget that I will actually be driving a cool classic ride.

Well, I can't pat myself on the back just yet. I still don't know if the trans works correctly. I don't have brakes hooked up, so I'm not able to stop it and change through the gears. I had a massive brake fluid leak. Tried to fix it twice. I got frustrated and just ordered a complete line set from inline tube. I'll run the lines once I get all the body work finished up. I sure hope it works, it'll be a bummer if I have to pull the engine/trans again to rebuild it

Re: Project "Captain Insano"

I got some Intro Twisted Vista II's on order! Ordered them through Kyle (Laid Back Recreations). He was excellent to deal with. Patient with all my questions and honest about the savings. I'll obviously be putting up some pics once they come in.

I got them with the satin finish blades.
Front 20 x 8.5" w/5.5" backspacing
Rear 20 x 10" w/5" backspacing
I wanted to get the rear wheel as deep as I could with a stock '72 rearend. I'm prepared to clearance the inner part of the bedside if needed.

Ordered Mickey Thompson Street Comp tires.
Front 255/35r20
Rear 275/35r20

Also ordered 2 SpinTech mufflers. Part # 3334 Sportsman XL 2 1/2" side inlet, 2 1/2" opposite side outlet.

Nice choice on the wheels and the mufflers. I can't wait to see the wheels, they will look great on your truck. I have spintechs on my truck and they sound amazing with a nice aggressive sound.

Next, I need to just repair one more fender. I need to fix the passenger lower front fender that has got ate away from battery acid. I picked up the repair section from classic chevy parts on I-35, $50 for that thing! It looks like a nice piece though. It has the inner shield tacked also.

Then get my brake lines installed. I need get them hooked up before the wheels show up and see if this transmission works. It'll sure be nice to roll this bad boy out of the garage on it's own power.

Then finish painting and rebuild my steering column.

Dang, you got me thinking about all the tons of work I have left!

Thanks. It's DuPont ChromaBase MM457K. It's like a charcoal w/bluish-green metallic in the sun. I painted my 01 Silverado this color 3 yrs ago and I loved it. I'll see if I can pull up an old photo.

Thanks. I can't wait for the wheels to show up. I also love the sound of spintechs. I had some sportsman 6000 (I believe) on an 01 Silverado w/heads, cam, longtubes, stall, etc and the sound was awesome. With this truck, I went with their XL series. I wanted it to be just a tad more quiet.

That was built by my buddy Dan (67rustbuket). He lives about 4-5 miles from me. That thing is sweet, it perfectly balances the cab. Makes quick easy work for one guy to maneuver the cab.

Re: Project "Captain Insano"

I did a two-tone. The top color is the charcoal like. The bottom one is a lighter gunmetal. I never got to the point of color sanding it and buffing before I sold the truck, so you can see a bit of haziness.
