Just wasnt sure how to know about fitment and handling the HP. Seems Ill need to get some accurate WMS to WMS measurements on both units (mine and CL ones) and go from there - open cover and check for rust/damage and play etc).

Then worst case get some hangers and new leafs .....

thanks RD - helpful

For a hundred bucks I be knocking on his door yesterday, I like it cause it has same bolt pattern as a Dakota, the right gear ratio, posi and saves the hassle going to junk yard crawling under junk SUV pulling it at U-pull it yard. Here is Dan's build look at the way the shop used stock springs and after market saddle perches Look at his post #1480 and #1452 his is mustang same rear as explorer

Re: Some concept ideas on soon to post build thread

Rousch Mustang's use the same rears don't get fixed on HP it will handle more than enough the LS can put out remember even thou you have 20K to spend on it think wise, use a budget like 10K for drive train as a goal. If you go over no biggy, the main thing is make a plan and stick with it. don't worry about which proportion valves to use until you are ready to do brakes. I concentrate on suspension first, drive train second, body work third paint last upholstery. I know everything you want has already been done so just decide what needs to done now and as you build get stumped search or ask questions later.

Re: Some concept ideas on soon to post build thread

Have you looked into Hydroboost for power brakes?
Excellent choice on front suspension !
I would leave the LS stock until you drive it, you will be very surprised!!!

Re: Some concept ideas on soon to post build thread

Thanks guys.
I know it's going to be a bigger project than I'm aware. ..... but getting help and better ideas makes it easier ..... good stuff

Hydro boost... thought about it ..... no idea how to hook up .....aftermarket ratrod etc I would think regular PS pump and power rack and pinion enough for this truck weight

Good tips RD. Excited to start .....

Re: Some concept ideas on soon to post build thread

Hey guys.
Another question on the ford 8.8.

Mustang rears ---- like out of late 94-98's. Suitable for ~350HP. ?
I think they have a 28 spline.

I know they are weaker than the 31 spline. Just don't know how much weaker. Might have access to one.

Thanks

Re: Some concept ideas on soon to post build thread

This article suggests the 94-99 come with 31 spline.

Re: Some concept ideas on soon to post build thread

FAKKY,
Throwing my novice hat in the ring. These guys have more knowledge and experience in their little finger...
Another option and the road I'm going down with my 51 3100.
C6 complete rolling chassis and driveline (I found totally checked out 20 K miles for 8K-Cleveland Power/Perf.). Custom fabbing a frame (see similar in link below). This is just my LS2 at 400hp, 400 fp torque. Plus this engine has huge upgrades available. Later model C6 "LS bigger and better" even stronger with same? configuration as mine. All aluminum and includes all computers, a/c minus inside unit and more. I know I'll hit walls but it would work even better on your wider truck for wheels, etc.. final weight would be less than what you have now- C6 was about 400 lbs lighter than panel but figure difference all that aluminum and all that iron and steel you lose I'll bet it's a wash.
I totally appreciate dialing in with all the mixed components, but weigh against a complimentary package you just bolt onto frame, drop body on?
At least another option.
Just CAD designing frame now, glad to share scan of C6 you'd just have to figure body mount sites and frame in between.

Re: Some concept ideas on soon to post build thread

Mine is only a good idea if I get it done and like it. Otherwise just an expensive mess. Time will tell. If frame doesn't eat me up, will have about same in chassis and driveline as your initial plan. I just like packaged design aspect beyond frame. Biggest issue past frame Fab will be getting wheels in fenders. Several have told me too wide but I'm standing in front of this Corvette and outside of tires front and back is less than 71", AD I have is 73 front and 74" rear to outside of fenders and your TF is wider?
Thanks for starting your thread, I'll watch and learn.
