Re: Checking Driveling Vibration & Calculating It.

Looking at these Numbers - allows - No Pinion Wrap Up . .

1. Eng. Trans . 3 Degrees Down ( Correction ) 3.3 Degrees Down !
2. 1st Drive Shaft Driven - Trig. Out the Angle to be 4.854 Degrees .
3. 2 sec. Drive Shaft Driven Trig. Angle to be 3.75
4. Rear Diff. Total = 3 Degrees Down.

Equals Operating Angles of :

Operating Angles of : 1st 1.55
2nd 1.1
3rd .75

Then Also :
*Taking into Acct. say 1 Degree ( Wrap Up ) for 1 ton Springs*

Looks like a Need to move Pinion at Least 1.0 Degree Down in Front . .
Or Add 1 Degree Shim to the ( Leaf Spring Perch ) - making Total Pinion = 2.0 Degrees Down
But the Operating Angle of 1.75 Degrees . .

Running down Road - I'd get . .

1st Operating 1.55
2nd Operating 1.10
3rd. Angle 1.25 Degree - which would allow approx .65 Degree Wrap Up .. Operating Angle of 1.75 Degrees

Hope I have this Sorted Out Now - Anyone Say ?
Corrected Type -O

Can you remind me what type of vehicle this is? Do I remember you saying this was a dump truck?

And can you also remind me what the original complaint was (ie, bad vibration at speed)?

Those angles look better. With a one-ton vehicle you may not get very much spring wrap at all.

Why are you "trig'ing" these out when they can be measured directly?

"Down" relative to what? The rear shaft or the ground?

Re: Checking Driveling Vibration & Calculating It.

1954 1 Ton - has - Hoist , Stake _Dump - Dual

Mostly used for Grain & Feed - 50 yrs.

Not suppose to be much _ Over All Mileage on it .. ?

The Inclinator was used to double check Results , there were
Small Variations ,( My Garage isn't Level with the World . )
LOL - just Kidding . .

so Checked ..again and Found a Type - O in My Post .

Yes, there are still Wheel Issues .. But just - Changing Rear Gear Oil
made a Difference in Vibration .. - which looked like Sludge from a Sewer .
Oh Joy !

Still there just - Not - as Crazy Amped - now it's just Big Time .

* Angles
Down as to Zero Point - V Cup = 1.25 Operating . .

Vibration does seem ( Feel to It ) to be ( Twice the Speed of the Wheels )

See If I'm able to get You a Video . .

Doesn't matter; the angles are relative to the driveline components, not the world.

Not twice the speed of the wheels; twice the speed of the driveshaft (or 2x engine rpm for a 1:1 transmission high gear ratio).

Re: Checking Driveling Vibration & Calculating It.

My Garage ..LOL - just Kidding .

After Topping Up the Rear - Gear , I Drained it and Flushed it some - Lighter Oil 30W - till it came out
Much Cleaner , then Flushed with Fresh 80W90 - to Clear thew 30W - then Topped it up Full this Time . .

Tried to Count the Vibrations - Compared to Second - leaning toward 10X
Fast Vibration around @ 42 Mph - it feels like it's going 5X - 10X - The Wheels ..

I should Test a New U-Joint , also .. Link show Movement & Sound .

I think you may have attached the wrong link. This one is relative to setting up a ring and pinion.
