steering and box questions for a 59 GMC 100

I have a tie rod barely rubbing the right front tire. I'm also trying to analyze why the steering is loose and it tends to drift left and right.

For the tie rod issue - Are offset rims a good option? or just live with it? Offsets would clear the front fender easy enough but not on the rear fenders.

Previous owner installed a Ford steering box with PS. No change over work has been done to the front axle or suspension.

What are my options? Is there a recommended steering box that would work well with this 59 GMC 100 (102)? The original is done and gone and this Ford box may be the problem. I am having an alignment specialist look at it tomorrow as well.

The more I drive it the more I am convinced it's not a suspension problem but rather steering.

What would you recommend as a good and tight steering unit to replace this Ford box?

Two last questions -

What would an independent front uspension do with the handling of this truck? In your opinions is an aftermarket suspension unit a worthwhile investment?

Are adjustable shocks any help on the fornt? I've had them on past rigs - bbut a fella told me to think about adjustable shocks for the front (?) what are your thoughts? I'm not sure what that would gain me.

thanks in advance. tom

An IFS would make that truck drive like A Cadillac!

Sure sounds like the previous owner did something strange there... never heard of a Ford box going into a 55-9. But then I hear strange things all the time. (That is what I tell my shrinlk too! ) LOL rico
