More progress pics....

It has been killing me to see everyone's pictures this summer and not being able to drive my blazer yet But there is light at the end of the tunnel....this weekend I picked up a couple of things that are bringing me that much closer to having it done by next spring.

First I picked up the motor last week. I am most excited about it. Here are the specs. 406 (400 bored .30 over)
Keith Black pistons (30cc dished 9.0 cr)
Vortec heads (screw in studs and springs good to .550 lift)
Comp Cams XE268
Weiand action plus intake
SMI 750cfm quadrajet

The horsepower should be around 400 but I am hoping the torque will be around 500 at 2800! A similar buildup in CHP produced slightly better numbers with a larger lunati cam.

I also got my Hummer rims painted this week and they turned out pretty good. You can't really appreciate the color until you see it in the sun. It's smililar to copperhead pearl but it's actually a Mazda color called blazing copper metallic. I just wanted something a little different . I plan on using the 2500HD black center caps to offset the tires and black exterior trim. My painter is still recovering from surgery and promises the rest of truck will be done by the end of the month....we'll see.

Last but not least, here are the 3/4 ton running gear I got from Wes out of a 72 Cheyenne. 4.10's front and rear with a factory Detroit locker in the rear. I think this is enough to keep me motivated throught the fall and winter.

Re: More progress pics....

Progress looks good. Those whhels look so much better painted. I'll reserve judgment on the black centers, but it doesn't sound like it would be an improvement to me...

Re: More progress pics....

Definitely like the way you painted the rims. Nice! Motor look sweet - ought to motivate the K5 quite well.

Re: More progress pics....

Great foundation!

Are you going auto or standard shift?

What is the intended purpose of this beastie being built?
Serious off road or driver?
Eitherway, looking forward to seeing it completed.
Those wheels are going to look sweet on a K5.

Here's how mine turned out by just painting over the factory chrome centers.
(after a couple hours with a scotch brite pad)
I like your painted ones better.

Re: More progress pics....

Thanks for the compliments guys...this project has been ongoing since 03 and like I said I am hoping to have it completed by next spring. I'll try to answer all of your questions.

1. N2, I have a couple of choices on the way I finish the rims. Under the hummer cap I had the centers painted the same color as well. I could leave the caps of and just have the black hubs showing through or I was thinking using the similar caps as VT except using the black ones. I haven't decided yet.

2. Luv2, I will try to get some of the progress pics beginning to end sometime next week. When I picked up the rims on Friday my painter had painted the insides of the front fenders and hood and were doing one last mock up before painting the whole thing.

3.French, I had almost decided on copperhead pearl and then I started noticing a lot of other rigs painted the same color. In addition to being half the price, the Mazda color allows easy access to touch up paint if needed. The color came on Mazda 6's and looks AWESOME in the sun. I'll try to get some more color pics by the end of the week.

4.VT, I am hoping to build the most versatile blazer as possible. Not a hard core crawler but not a mall cruiser either. I live real close to the mountains and love camping and exploring trails. I want something that will capable on trails but not too uncomfortable on the road. As far as the tranny it will be an auto and I am have not decided between a th350/700r4 or upgrading to a 400. I probably won't see enough hiway to justify the 700r4 plus I not sure about it holding up to the engine. I have been looking into to either a 350 or 400 with a lower first gear set (2.75). Still up in the air...... Lift will be six inch lift with either 35's or 36's depending on the tranny. I've also got a roll bar on order from S@W like bluegoose's and will probably run a soft top. I'll post more pics as I get them.

Re: More progress pics....

Regarding the 700R4.

I don't know much about them, but when Jessie James went to Iraq to build a wheely car out of a Military issue Hummer, it has a 700R4 in it. I'm sure the HumV doesn't have the power yours does, but they beat the crap out of their vehicles.

What is a 700R4 rated too?
