Project: Ant broke fix it till it is.

Well last saturday was the day i saw my truck the first time in person and took it home and decided to enjoy it for the summer then this summer do some things to it for making it a daily driver. Well last night i went to pull the motor and tranny out to start these mods and saw a few wonderful things that the PO left for me as surprises... One of my favorite was only having one of the motor mounts bolted in and the other motor mount wasnt connected to the motor(bolt was completely missing), sweet huh. But we started pulling it out and realised the sm465 wont clear the tranny crossmember so we stopped for the night and ill have to finish it later but now the motor/tranny is just sitting in the truck for the time being. I figure i can get some other stuff for the truck for turning it into 5 lugs this summer until i get back out there with some help to remove it the rest of the way(family dont like me doing these things on my own). Heres a list of what i would LIKE to do as of this summer.

1.actually getting the motor and tranny out would be a good start
2.cleaning up the motor and reseal it
3.take the tranny in to have it looked over to make sure its good to go
4.switch the front end to 5lug and once its up and running again do the rear after all that
5.convert it to powerbrakes and replace all the break and fuel lines
6.put straight pipes going out the back into a 26'' magaflow glasspack

As of right now thats all i can think offtheres a little things that i wont bore you with until i do it, heres some pics of the truck.
The prius is my step mothers we took it out to get the truck, the truck and that are quite a different ride

Re: Project: Ant broke fix it till it is.

sounds like good plans!

I know all about po's

On my 70 the motor mounts were similar, and the tranny mount had NOTHING holding it to the frame and one bolt (loose) in the tranny...

Re: Project: Ant broke fix it till it is.

O its ok now that I know, I drove it like that for a summer because he is a professional autobody guy that restores cars for a living so i figured hed know that was a little important. Now I'm going to check everything over so I don't have anymore surprises down the road, my nephew and nieces road in that with me like that... I almost threw up thinking what coulda happened. But now at least I have a good storyand it can be fixed. What else were some of the things the po's did to your guys truck? Just so I know what I'm in for haha.

Re: Project: Ant broke fix it till it is.

Got the motor pulled, we had some problems, the tranny/motor wouldn't come out together and all my help was leaving that Monday to Europe so the next weekend I had to pull it by myself and this was the first time ever I pulled a motor but I got it out easier by myself then with my help that left. But girlfriend wasn't to happy about me doing it by myself

Hey thanks. Ya I asked if I should get a cherry picker but my father said why don't we use the tractor worked pretty well but the joy stick is touchy an I'm the only one that knows how to do it carefully.

Re: Project: Ant broke fix it till it is.

Got the motor resealed/painted an then took the trans in to get it looked over from a local shop. When the guy called I asked him how it looked when he popped the cover an he said it looked like new an it just needed a reseal so itd stop leaking, cost me around $150 so I'm happy there!

Re: Project: Ant broke fix it till it is.

Got the motor/bellhousing in by myself which was pretty easy, I couldn't get the driver side motor mount bolt in an had some trouble with that. When my father got out there we lifted the motor so the tractor had all the weight on it an took the motor mount out to see if we could enlarge the hole because of it slightly being smashed from the PO decision not to put that motor mount bolt in. After all that we bolted in the mount but left it very loose so we could wiggle it to get the motor mount bolt to the engine in easier which after all that it went in without a problem.

Nice work!!! Looks great sitting in there. I was just thinking how it would look to paint the raised portion of those style valve covers black. I'm doing a black and chevy orange engine combo and trying to come up with the best places to add some black. Looks really good!!!

Hey thanks! I love Orange but a solid Orange would be just wayy to much specially sense the truck is Orange . I painted the oil pan, timing cover, water pump, and top of valve covers black an I like it a lot better then it use to be. I wanted the heads black but didn't want to take them off for that long to paint.
What parts are you painting?

My truck is going to be a patina'd blue/teal color. Right now I'm planning on the block, heads, oil pan, and intake being orange. Also the water pump. Thinking on the valve covers still...either black with orange or orange with black and not sure what style...
Pulleys, air cleaner, water neck, power steering pump, fan, and alternator black. Exhaust (ram horns or headers if I find a deal) will be high temp black...

Re: Project: Ant broke fix it till it is.

Next in line was the transmission an I have to say that sucked quite a bit. I built a stand for it that went on a car jack an made it so it had some wiggle room to help mate the trans into the bellhousing an sense the trans was so heavy we still had a lot of trouble. But after several hours in a truck that was in a garage an it was 90 out with the sun beating in on the black interior we finally got it.
