Re: 60-63 Spotlight Installation

Has anyone tried installing a spotlight on a 64-66 c-10 cab. Would it mount to the cowl or thru the post?

I would prefer the cowl mount. any pics?? inside and outside??

Thanks

Re: 60-63 Spotlight Installation

Here's my '61 Suburban with twin spots... I found the factory mounting brackets for both sides.
The hard part was drilling the hole through the dash from the outside--it required a looong drill bit. Fortunately, I had a stubby 1/2-inch bit, and a length of 1/2-inch rod in my scrap bin, and was able to weld the rod to the drill bit and make a foot-long bit. The most amazing part is that it turned true! Wasn't warped or wobbly.

I also got parts through Accessoryland... great guy, and VERY knowledgeable. I hope he's still up and running... I need to get a set of spotlights for my '54 Buick Special.

Thanks. I've had it for 7 years, and in that time I've dropped a crate engine in it (290hp 350), New Process 4spd OD manual trans, rebuilt the Dana 44 with 3.42 gears, dual reservoir/power brake conversion, rebuilt the brakes with self-adjuster mechanisms, new 3/4-ton radiator, American AutoWire wiring kit, full instrumentation gauge cluster rebuilt by AutoInstruments, shifter mechanism rebuilt by Hurst, had the bumpers rechromed, and put new floors in front.

I've put nearly 60,000 miles on the new engine (and drove the original 283 for two years), and it's been through 20 states.

Next up is rebuild the front suspension, drop-spindles, disc brakes and the front sway bar I'm manufacturing, and then paint. I've got another hood that's got a bad dent but not as many other dents, a pair of workable front fenders, mint doors, mint grille support, chrome grille and tail/lift gate set-up to replace the elbow-killing barn doors.

Re: 60-63 Spotlight Installation

If you are going to use the factory outside bracket #187 (1964-66) the original specified length for the correct spotlight measures 12". This is the distance from the centerline of the handle to the centerline of the lamp head pivot. With the lamp completely assembled off the car or truck, the dimension of exposed shaft between the handle assembly and the head assembly should be 6.5 inches.

Fyi 187 & 187R new OEM bracket kits are still available from UnityUsa. For installation help on a 64-66 this thread should help:

I got one of those magnetic flashlights. Great conversation starters.

Re: 60-63 Spotlight Installation

I think it's kind of funny that this thread showed up now. I'm trying to find instructions how to remove a Unity Model S04 from my 2003 Crown Vic CVPI. got someone wanting it to put on his FordRanger

I agree. They are great people to work with. They even rebuilt some old lights I found and charged me very little .
