Man, I'm not a 4x guy, or a diesel guy, but this thing is KILLER! Nice work! Where'd the offbrand dynamat come from? Peel-n-seal?

Thanks! You're gonna laugh but i actually just used window and gap filler from Menards and applied though the screw holes in the ceiling. Made a huge difference. Kinda had to since I'm not gonna have interior to cover up dynamat.

It's called Gtmat. I bought 100square feet of 110mil thick. the thickest you can buy. It's pricey but well worth it!!

This is an awesome build. You said your not putting interior in it?...just no headliner?

Can't wait to see this one finished.

Not laughing at all. Actually I seen this done before somewhere else and was thinking of doing it myself. It sounds like it would be difficult to fill the entire cavity, getting into the center from the ends and sides etc. Interested.

Surprised no one else has asked but what's the story on the speaker pods? Did you fab those are is there a vendor? Also on the tow mirror install, I can see that basically you deleted the vent and fabbed a plate, mounted to that, but how is it sealing? Also the cable to hook them up is going down and in the door? What about the hardware on your plate you fabbed? Is there a trim cap or anything? Just think the mirrors are really cool and trying to get your R&D on it in case I give it a go.

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap

Thanks,
Well the truck was a government truck so it didnt come with interior, and I don't feel like spending the money on it since it all looks good being painted anyway. Plus i don't think it would even fit with the roll cage. I was thinking someday i'd get custom made panels for the roof and cab. I will still have floor carpet and door panels of course.

Yea i'm sure the foam didn't fill all the cavitys but i figured it would be better then nothing.

The speakers pods i can't remember where i got em but i needed them so the large speakers don't hit the window guts inside the door. Plus i like how they look and angle the speaker upwards.

The mirrors are just sitting there for a few pics. There's other parts to install yet so it all seals up and looks nice. Will hopefully be installing all the door guts this saturday i'll get pics up and it'll all make sense. It's very simple and the blind spot will be very minimal.

I picked up another load of painted parts last night along with the smoked clearance lights and tail lights which look badda$$!!!

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap

So I now know that i for sure cannot tig weld. I'm not a bad self taught mig welder but tig welding is a whole nother story...

I decided to weld the stainless thru hauls on instead because the 0 rings kept leaking and i wanted to never worry about dropping the tanks again.

Tank on the left is a massacred stainless tig weld. Said screw this and went and bought a roll of stainless wire for the mig. Mig weld on the right.
Wish i would've done it to begin with...but thought, how hard can it be?...

I then coated the welds with liquid metal compound then sprayed over it with Leak Seal.
Here's a few pics with the 1 1/2" transfer hose installed.

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap

I had to make sure this sticker didn't get painted over!

New load of painted parts woo hoo

I love the smoked tail lights! I thought i'd have to buy new ones cuz how scratched n faded they were but some smoke and clear coat did wonders. And in the light they look pretty bright yet, Plus i'll have 4 other led tail lights if they are too dark.

Same thing with the clearance lights

Installed a new 6x9 and spacer

Eric, nice work! I think your clearance and tail lights turned out awesome! Do you know what kind of tint paint they used?

What nerd bars are those? The ones that style I've found so far don't have a fit for our style trucks. My truck is a crew too.

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap

So I want your opinion on some thing...

Granted that two post lift helps a TON but do you think you could have pulled this off in the time you did and the quality you did without it?

I am debating buying a $5k bendpac for my project, but I'll only be renting the shop. Not sure if its worth the extra hassle of trying to deal with the lift afterwards. Leaving it in the shop in exchange for rent is not an option at this time so i am kind of torn

The way I look at it, all i have to do is drop my rust free Cali cab once and the lift is paid for...

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap

I'm back and i'm still alive. Harvest has been crazy, today is my first day off in over 4 weeks!! So happy it finally rained on a Sunday!

As for your lift, i would try to find a used one, i picked up mine for 1200 bucks. And you can always easily resell it, they hold their value very well.

I haven't hardly touched the truck.. I started the wiring nightmare and installed the shift knobs, that's it lol
I ordered an aftermarket cruise control kit and fuse panel for all the extra electronics.

jus goofin around, be one hell of a dually lol

So what color will the seats and interior trim pieces be? I was just looking at everything and got a crazy idea that all it would need is a halo to be the angel truck. Sweet looking build though.
