Question driveshaft/lowering question

I have a SWB 69 C10 with a 2 piece driveshaft and I am lowering the rear of the truck in a few weeks. I have lowered the front using only 2.5" drop spindles and I plan on using 4" drop coils for the rear along with a shock mount relocation kit, drop shocks and an adjustable trac bar. Will the stock length on the driveshaft work or will it have to be shortened? I tried searching but didn't find any detailed information. I'm sure I will need a new seal for the extension housing on the trans as well since it will be riding on a new location of the yoke after it is lowered.

Re: driveshaft/lowering question

I used 2 1/2" spindles and 2" springs on the front of mine with a leaf spring flip that netted 7" drop in the rear and had no issues with driveshaft length.

Re: driveshaft/lowering question

I dropped my c20 with 2.5 inch spindles and 1 inch drop spring in front and 4 inch drop springs and 1.5 inch drop blocks in back. No issues. Just had to get adjustable track bar.

Re: driveshaft/lowering question

As others have stated, driveshaft length shouldn't be an issue, but I would check pinion angle before and after. I have looked into the pinion angle vs. drop issue on the forum here and most people say theirs is fine even after up to a 6" drop, however, my pinion was off by 4 degrees with only a 4.5" drop and resulted in a vibration at low speeds. Every truck is different of course, so definitely makes sense to at least check it.

Re: driveshaft/lowering question

Thanks everyone. I will be sure to check pinion angle before and after.

Re: driveshaft/lowering question

If you have a trailing arm truck you should have the light duty carrier bearing.
Unlike the guy with the leaf spring truck that has a hd carrier bearing and a slip in the rear shaft that will compensate for any change in length your rear shaft is solid. I would. Loosen the carrier bearing mounting bolts, set the truck at its new ride height with weight on the suspesion then retighten the bolts to prevent any preload stress on the ld carrier bearing rubber. It wouldn't hurt to clean up that trans yoke either.

Re: driveshaft/lowering question

Thanks for the advice Brad_Man_72. I'll be sure to do that as well. One other question, how do you adjust the pinion angle on these trucks? On my leaf spring rear in my 67 Camaro I used some angular shims from competition engineering under my leaf springs and those worked great.

Same exact idea except the shims are slightly different to fit over the alignment nub and the u-bolts. These are what I put in mine.

Re: driveshaft/lowering question

I go thru a hanger bearing every year with my lowered 72 lwb. Go with a 1piece drive shaft, you,ll be glad you did
