timing question

I have a GM 290hp/350 with HEI. in the installation and break in procedures GM says to disconnect and run the engine without the vacuum advance. I've never heard of this.

Re: timing question

Gm's paperwork indicates that "this engine is designed to run on mechanical advance. The initial 10 degrees will produce 32 degrees total advance at WOT

Re: timing question

It's simply the bean counters in the warranty department.
They don't want you to put too much timing into the motor and hurt it and cause a warranty problem.
