How heavy is the bed of the truck???

I have my Porterbuilt air ride on order and I'm gonna take the bed off. How heavy is it? How many people does it take to move?

Tks Kevin

Re: How heavy is the bed of the truck???

Id say around 400+ lbs for a long bed. Ive done it easily with four guys. Could work with two strong guys. If you rig up a four wheel cart into a bed stand and let it take a portion of the weight, two guys could do it easily. One guy could do it if you have strong rafters/trusses with eye screws, and lift it off with straps and then drive the truck away. Lots of ways to do it

Re: How heavy is the bed of the truck???

When my swb bed (wood) rotted out, the original owner made his own bed, complete with bedsides, out of 1/8 steel plate. It is seamlessly welded in there with plug welds to 4 bolts in the bottom. He removed it once, alone, on jacks.

I am thinking about building a hoist out of 4x4 blocks and lifting it on straps or just jacking it up like the previous owner.

Fwiw,
Not sure on weight but I've removed the bed by myself with an engine hoist and some nylon straps. Then placed it on a 4 wheel steel cart to move it around when needed.

Re: How heavy is the bed of the truck???

I will say if the bed is already junk one man can get it off by himself... It wasn't pretty but like I said the bed was already trash
350- 400 lbs is probably about right for a long bed.
