austempered cast cam 12-411-8

I just got my 327 engine back from my engine builder and have been doing some investigating as to what distributor gear/fuel pump rod to use. Comp cams roller 12-411-8 cam was used. It is a austempered cast cam I believe. As I'm reading I am finding that there is not 1 thread stating these cams are any good and will fail in short order. That scares me. I haven't finished assembly yet (oil pan and intake need to go on) and this makes me concerned I should pull it out and get a billet cam. I should add that this is going behind a th400 that is basically stock with stalk converter so the engine will never be over 4500 rpm.

Although I did not do a roller cam, I did a complete top end from them over 8 years ago with the complete kit coming from Comp. Stock motor build, I still take it to the floor winding slightly higher than 5 grand.

It has held up, although they did have some problems with the flat tappet lifters I have not had to replace one of them. Most likely due to the lifter bores likely being out of spec. 80k miles so far, and for how and where I did it left a lot to be desired. Did it under a shade tree so to say but worked very clean.

So Comp Cams stuff is great, they stand behind their product as long as you do the work properly. They do have overall a good reputation and have been doing this for decades. I know there are better performance options out there, I chose them based on their ability to inform the consumer and overall how I felt about their durability.
