Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons

I don't have any real exiting updates, but they're updates. Progress has slowed down since the birth of my son on Feb 1st, although I am still putting in a few hours here and there.

I bought a 175 hp p7100 injection pump, housing, lines and everything needed to convert my ve motor to a 07100 motor. I am in the preprocessing of cleaning all of my parts and sending the pump in for tuning

The head came off for a new oem gasket, arp studs and milled rocker pedestals

I've been trying to fit a compound turbo set up. Originally planned on going with a hx35/ht3b setup but the rotation of the 3b makes it difficult to fit. I have a hx55 that fits better but I'm on the look out for a s472.

Pictured is the ht3b sitting under the hx35

My new suspension is finally installed 4" offroad design custom leafs built to my specs and 3" tuff country ez rides. Front sits a little high but should level out if I ever drive it.

Brand new 33/12.50/20 toyo open country mt

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons

I still can't decide on wheels, they will be a 20x12... Unsure of what wheels though, I've been leaning towards black instead of polished.

Two sets I have

At this point we are finishing up all of the panel gapping, tailgate to bedsides are done, doors are done, we've been fighting with hood to fender on drivers side as well as the cowl. Once panels are aligned I will start on body work.

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons

The truck is looking great! To be honest with you, I bet those front springs don't settle more than an inch. None of these trucks I've built have. I have a Super HX40II over a HT60 on the Longhorn. It's a newer version of the HT3B. Yeah, they are a bit more of a PITA to build piping for. Another great turbo to use is a GT4294. About the same size as a 472, but out flows it. I have a GT4294 with a billet 75mm comp wheel on my Corvette. It has a S364/65/14 on top of it.

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons

Dieselwrencher thanks for the input. My issue with the ht3b is that it get too close to the oil filter. So if I decide to run it I will have to relocate the oil filter. It looks like you used a cummins part to relocate yours? What did you use for a filter housing and where did you mount it? If it ends up costing very much I will just go with a s400 series or possibly I nice s300 as a single.

Since were in topic What is everyone's opinion for turbo setup. My goal is 500-550 hp. Quick spooling and manageable egts. I will not tow with the truck very often just building it as a fun street truck. Twins are obviously more work but it seems that once you go over a 62/65/12 single spool up suffers greatly and a 62/65/12 will not make 500hp.

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons

I can tell you, a 64/71/14 is a great charger. It will make a smokey 500hp though. 550hp daily driver, tow twins are the way to go IMO. A member here in Arkansas built a 05 F350 with a 12v in it. He used a HE351 over a S472 with a T4 1.10 exhaust housing. It spols really fast and makes great power. I do have an oil filter relocate, but it is a modified oil cooler cover ryanroo did. I have not installed it. I have a stock one on my truck. The air inlet to the HT60 is really tight, but I got it all in there.

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons

Nothing has changed in the suspension. Sometimes it looks low in rear and sometimes it looks fine. Depends on angle. I have 4" leafs in front and 3" leafs in rear. I was told the fronts will settle about another 1" if they don't I will get a 1" block in the rear.

Can easily see how much work it has been but can say the way your building it is well worth it, no cookie cutter there. Will be an appreciated truck for many to enjoy and jaw drop..

The wheels and tires look great! Nice work on the P-pump swap. Have any idea when you'll get it in a booth?

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons

No idea at this point. My goal now is to finish up everything on the chassis and get it started. All the sheet metal work is just about finished. Everytbody shop locally has quoted me $10,000 for body and paint. So until I find someone more reasonable or gain the confidence to try it myself I am at a stand still

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons

I have a good friend that lives near KC MO who was having the same problem. He ended up finding a Maaco that did great work. They did his 94 Ford Crew cab DRW for $5k and did an excellent job on it. Even 2 toned it. They let him come in and check everything before they proceeded so maybe that is an option for you?

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons

Actually I talked to my local Macco. They quoted me right around $5,000. Depending on how much block sanding it would take for me to be happy. $2500 for a base coat clear coat paint job. And approximately $2500 in block sanding first(they did say at $2500 in block sanding it still may require more)Color sandig and buff another $1000.

They painted my dads 1970 Oldsmobile 442 and it still looks great. The only two things I am unsure about are sherwinn Williams brand paint which is all they can use. And their time frame which is about 6 months. They are completely ok to me coming in to check it out through the stages, but they are an hour away.

Which Maaco did you hit up? Had a great experience at the one in rancho on sunrise by Costco. Mother in laws Tahoe needed a full repaint and they were reasonable and it turned out great. They had a lot of older project vehicles in there so they are definitely on my radar when the time comes

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons

Thanks, Love following your build Ryan! As pleased as I am with the downpipe I won't be using it. I've decided to keep up with you and dieselwrencher I'll need twins. S300 and s400 are on order as well as some other goodies. Hopefully I'll have some updates within a week or so.

Color wise I'd like to go with a charcoal grey, something similar to gm cyber grey metallic. I have a body guy that says he'd like to start on body work March 1st. I'm shooting to have my drivetrain projects wrapped up by then.

Intercooler has been shortened and getting new inlet/outlet welded on, grille support notched to clear, p7100 4K governor springs, afc Spring kit and mods done, I've got to paint the pump and install it still. I've got a air dog and some an fittings and hose waiting install. Plenty of work ahead of me!

Re: ***Dream Truck Build*** 72 swb fleet with a cummins and one tons

Updates.... Twins are mocked up, ready for final welding. S300 57/65/14 and s400 72/83/1.10, v band flanges from stainless diesel and keating machine, and a steed speed manifold. Everything clears inner fenders, core support and firewall will need a tiny bit of massaging.

Intercooler is a second gen dodge that has been shortened, new 3.5" aluminum ends turned and will be welded on

P7100 pump just came back from Seth @ Farrell diesel service. 4k gsk, 100 plate, afc tuned, Mack rack plug, benched at 340cc. Waiting on 5x.014 sac injectors from DFI

All fabrication by Dan @ Pure Metal Works 209-256-8080 check him out @puremetalworks

Looks like a good fit but are you going to be able to fish some ac lines through that firewall?

If I decide to run a/c the lines will fit, mounting the compressor will be the hard part.

What a beautiful setup, just nasty looking. So what does the diesel weigh in at compared to a gas engine.
