1/2 ton or 3/4 dump beds?

Anyone have a useable dump bed on a half ton or 3/4 ton? Like to see pics of the mechanism and how you did it.

Not talking about the big trucks, I know plenty of them have dumps.

Re: 1/2 ton or 3/4 dump beds?

Do you mean a dump body or a pickup bed with hoist added? There were single wheel contractor dump bodies offered in the day. They were cab-wide with short sides abut a foot tall. That is what I was looking for after removing the utility bed from the '71 C/30 Napco I had when it was stolen from the truck body place. It's most common now to find flatbed dumps you can put sides on and most are now aluminum

I mean a pick up truck that someone has made their box in to a dump box. Not a special box, but just the regular ol pick up box. Looks like a normal pick up, pull the knob and the box tilts up and dumps out all the dirt, bark, gravel etc that your wife wants in her yard.

Re: 1/2 ton or 3/4 dump beds?

It's a pretty common modification for the low rider crowd. I seem to remember kits you could buy. You could look at some tilt bed trailers for ideas. I also think you can buy a dump box insert for your box for about $2500.

Orrrrrrrr just buy this!

Or this with the ever so handy sizzor lift. Perfect for those tree trimming and gutter cleaning projects to keep the wife happy.

Re: 1/2 ton or 3/4 dump beds?

That white truck is just up the road. But Im not ready to pay 1500 bucks just to get the dump hydraulics and have to dispose of the rest of the truck ... I have way too much crap as it is (ugh haha).

I knew the little trucks were into the dump beds and such, I figured not really heavy duty enough for an actual working pick up bed that wants to hold and dump a real load.

Re: 1/2 ton or 3/4 dump beds?

My k20 has a twin cly dump mech on it driven off the 205 with a chelsea pto.

This was installed in 84'. Thats about all i can read on the tag in the door jam since the kid scrubbed most of the tag away.

Its been awhile since i put it up, and its loaded with shed stuff with the step box on top now, but ill see if i can find the pics i posted last year showing the mech.

The fleetside is absolutly whooped and im a stepper fan so hopefully i can "make" the step bed fit much better.

Re: 1/2 ton or 3/4 dump beds?

The mini-truck crowd does "tilt beds". I don't think they could haul and dump more than a cooler of beer. What you see above is a dump conversion using full frame substructure, so you can use it pretty much same as a true dump truck. There are kits made today to install and keep bed in line. But they ain't all that cheap, about what that flatbed dump would cost. But that truck doesn't have all you need to bolt in, like the conversion kit would. These leave the bed "close to" being aligned with the cab.

Re: 1/2 ton or 3/4 dump beds?

Just a general search found this
https://www.ebay.com/i/271172756512?chn=ps&dispItem=1

http://www.ebay.com/itm/4400-lbs-Pic...-/121370699145

Northern Tool offers dump bed kits.
I've not come across a good diagram or pic of an actual mechanism.

Re: 1/2 ton or 3/4 dump beds?

Heres a truck I saved so I can get an idea to do to mine soon. don't know who's it is but I like it. I see it has leaf springs, but I have coil, mine is only a half ton, but I think it will be something different. I had a unit on my 1990 pickup but took it off when I sold the truck, I'll have some interesting modifications to make this work...

Re: 1/2 ton or 3/4 dump beds?

I searched 33 pages of my attachments and only found this one pic that dosent even show the frame of the lift mech. Thought i had taken more pics of it than that.

But i will say mine looks way more beefy than those above.
when it was installed they added more leafs too the spring pack and a pintle hitch on the rear.

I had read somewhere that the twin cly lifts have a tendency to get uneven and sort of twist and jam up.
I havent used mine very hard yet but also havent seen even a hint of twist with the frame work it has also it can lift the bed dang near vertical.

I been all over the place trying too decide if i want too keep the lift on this truck.
The decision will be final once i get this bed off and start fitting the stepper on it.
i have alot to do too this truck but no space inside for it at the time and work has been taking all my time.

My guy that does my state saftey inspections told me he wouldnt pass it cause the way the bed sits. I said what does that have to do with it being safe?
But also could be the reason this truck hasnt been on the road since 84'. The same time the lift was installed.
I know it was used as a firewood truck on a large property at that time too. The fella had a large homemade log splitter that used the pintle hitch hence the reason it was added.

Non of that dont stop me from useing it as i please though.
