Re: largest tire

I have 255-60-15 on the back of mine on 8 inch rims on a Nova rear axle and have about a half inch clearance inside and out. That is with no tubs but the inside of the tires are known to rub the bed on hard corners if I am not careful.

48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six.
71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant.
77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

im trying to find a tire I can get off my truck in case of a flat on the side of the road. I don't want to take the coilovers loose on the side of the rode. but I don't want the tinies tire either

Re: largest tire

I've carried two jacks in my truck for years. A little trolly jack to raise it up far enough to get a bottle jack under the frame rail to jack it up high enough to get the tire off the ground while letting the axle drop down as far as the shock will let it. If i have a flat on the front I have to stick a bottle jack under the frame and lift the front of the truck enough to put the trolly jack under the frame. One does what one has to do but most of the time these days we don't have a lot of flats anyhow. My 2000 Cadillac has 156K on it and I don't think the spare has ever been mounted on the car.

my problem is the shock bottoms out before I can get the tire out of the wheelwell. I could deal with it on the side of the road but eventually im going to give the truck to my daughter someday and she couldn't deal with it. I just need a smaller tire. any suggestions on tire size . thanks guys

s10 blazer 4wd rear gbody frame clip , 2'' s10 dropped spindles 5" wheel 3" backspace 205/70 tire. I think I can get a 215/70 on rear with 6" wheel with 2" backspace and get thay off without problems

Re: largest tire

You are a long way from the first guy who has had to take a shock or spring loose to drop the axle far enough for the tire to clear on a custom rig. If the truck looks r/ight to you with the tire/wheel combo you have I'd say just be prepared for having a flat with the needed wrenches along . I'm thinking there is one side of my truck I can't get the tire off without a bit of a hassle. I know I can't do it with the jack under the axle.
