350 cam suggestions

The Wife bought an 86 silverado, 2 wheel shortbox, 1 owner, 305, 700r4, 2.73 gears. Truck had been sitting in a garage for 10 years untouched, so it needs some work. The 305 runs a little rough so I see this as an opportunity to upgrade a few things.

What I have to use:

Stock 76 350 shortblock from my K5
World products Torquer S/R heads 2.02/1.6 67 cc chambers
Stock aluminum 81 Z-28 4 barrel manifold
Fresh 650 holley spreadbore

I already rebuilt a 12 bolt with 3.73s that is going in, also the truck is going to stick. I have both a sm465 and a super T10 laying around that I can use.

So finally to my question, what are some cam suggestions?

I like this one but not sure on the lsa.

That cam will have quite a lopey idle. What pistons are in the shortblock?

Weekend cruiser, that SM465 will suck. Throw the Super T-10 in there. My Dad has one in his 1970 CST/10 and it is awesome with a snotty 350!

Re: 350 cam suggestions

I like it, since I consider all my basic Rv cams (220@.050/.450 lift) to be too small for high performance. The .470 lift would technically almost work with stock Vortecs. To me, run of the mill RV cams idle smooth and run like a stocker should have run from the factory. If I ever built a certain engine with a certain purpose I would spend some time talking to the techs at the cam companies to see what they would recommend.

Re: 350 cam suggestions

With that low of compression, I would do some more checking on that Howards cam first. The static compression will likely be around 8.5 to 8.75-1. I didn't see any valve timing specs that would allow checking the dynamic compression to see where it would be. If that cam will work with that low of compression, the engine should be a fun one. I agree on running the super T-10.

Wow, a 305 with a 700r4 and 2.73's. That was a lot of overdrive for a poor ol' 305.

Re: 350 cam suggestions

Do you have any low vacuum trouble with it? I contacted Howards, they said it was a good cam for the application.
