Nv4500

what is the shortest nv4500 to use with a divorced t/f case. the dodge 2wd looks longer than the chevy 2wd? Would like to use my stock bell with an adapter. a chevy with the dodge in put?

Re: Nv4500

I think a chevy with a dodge gas input, then you could use an A/A adapter and keep the cast iron bell, but it woul have to be bored out to 5 1/8. Or have your own adapter made. I have a cast iron bell with 5 1/8 bore already and this is what i will do some day.

Re: Nv4500

Another member on here was successful in in doing a transfer punch from his bellhousing and drilling new holes in the nv4500 case. He was using a later aluminum bell, so as dieseldude said youd also have to bore out the center hole to fit the nv4500. This would allow you to just bolt on a chevy nv4500.

The 92-95 chevy housings use a different bell bolt pattern than 96 and up chevy, and dodges. Luckily since you are using a 2wd version you wont be concerned that chevys have 32 spline outputs while dodges use 27 spline.

Re: Nv4500

You might also give thought to swapping the T221 out for a Dodge divorced NP205. It would be quieter and parts are far more easy to come by.

I've looked at them and I think you could do it with simple mods to the 221 mount brackets. It would however increase your rear driveshaft angles.

Re: Nv4500

The gm 2wd fixed yoke 35spline has a 6" tail housing which is 7" shorter than the dodge version.

I have the some pics of this set up ,I will post them when I find them.

Re: Nv4500

As argonaut suggests, the early GM NV4500s used a trans bolt pattern the same as earlier manual transmissions. They also have an unsynchronized 1st like the SM420 and SM465, while the 96 up had a 5.6:1 or so 1st, which isn't much different.

Re: Nv4500

wait, I want to correct something. I have both a 92 and a 95 chevy nv4500. while this pattern is different from the late pattern, it IS NOT the same as the early chevy 4-speed patterns.

Also the output spline counts that I listed were for 4wd transmission outputs, not 2wd. So those may not apply.

The Nv4500 main case is 12.375" plus the Gm 6" fixed yoke.

The Nv4500 in above pic.

Gm 96 and newer,w/Gm shifter stub.
Fixed yoke 6" ,w/35 spline output.
Cummins input and bearing retainer.

I use this set up in all my Cummins conversions when I need a divorce t-case or in any2wd.The E-brake drum can be added as well.

Hope this helps.
