Re: 86 squarebody made2drag

im still trying to figure out how to mount rear shocks. im going to use stock front shocks which i think are 8-9 inches compressed. i dont want anything between my notches, so i need to mount the shock bolts on the tire side up high and the axle with 3 or 4 inch weld on bracket plates. i still need to look at the bed mounts and see if i have any other options with the bed on.....kind of like the No Limit triangle mounts i saw on his 72...theres a nice feature on Rob's truck in the newest street trucks starting on page 48.....unfortunately the shocks will be last right before i mount my bed. im trying to only put im bed on once and i hope i never need to remove it again...another reason why im mounting my smc valves and compressor under the hood and most likely using hydraulic line from tank to under hood.

Again nice progress!

As for truck shows- The only ones I know of it Scrapin The Coast in Biloxi, and the Spring Fling in Panama City FL...but I've never been to either. My Trans Am is my show off ride...I usually check out cruizin the coast in Biloxi. I think "Scrapin" should be coming up soon.

As for my truck...it is a 'Future' Bagged project.LOL Right now it is my tow pig. But I do now have the bed off, and am working to get a fabricating friend of mine to do the rear frame notch and trim the frame under the cab in the next month or so. Only doing a 6/8 static drop for now- but building the frame work for bags. I have other issues(like powerplant) to work out before finishing the suspension.

ok, cool...ive been to both shows and i try to go to scrapen every year. ive also been to showfest twice when it was held in greenville ms and still like scrapen better. scrapen is well worth the ride! i'll be checkin in on your project every once in awhile.

Now I see the cut off leaf. I still feel you would be better off with that replaced rather than the helpers. The upper leaf may not flex as much in the front, but its still prone to fatigue in the rear.

i agree, i may end up doing that if the bags put too much flex on the mains near the shackle. do you have any advice on where to place the upper bag mounts vertical wise...in other words, should i have 3 people stand on the bumper til the notches touch axle (to mimic the bed being on), then compress my 2600 and screw a plug in it to hold it in at that position, then mark where the upper bag bracket needs to be?...im not sure if the bag should be compressed or half way compressed or what. i have heard the best ride was with the bag aired around 70% which should be 7 inches on this bag. starting with a compressed 2.8 that would give me 4.2 inches of lift for ride height and my axle will be about 4 inches from hitting the notch... somewhat where the axle is unloaded....if you have any other method for setting up the ride hieght it will be appreciated especially since you have experienced pressure readings and know where you used to run your leaf bags ....and feel free to post all you want on here. im not really worried about alot of discussion "taking over" my build thread....it will help me and/or another reader looking for answers from the more experienced...thanks

Looks sweet wat did you do to move I t closer move the mounting location on column? I always wondered if this was possible since im 6'1" 2 inches more away from me would make a huge improvment

i collasped the shaft between the rag joint and the firewall 2 inches but i recommend only doing 1 3/4 since it gets really tight on the cab side firewall. and yes the column bracket mounting location has to be dealt with.

heres my link on how i did it but caution you'll have to work the bugs out on everything that is moved and reattached....very minimal but still the fitment is still an issue.

heres the link: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=511745&page=3

Re: 86 squarebody made2drag

it seems to be able to be done without taking the column out....loosen everything and pull the steering column away from the rag joint enought to drill the 2 plastic plugs out of the shaft. tap it in 1 3/4 then push your steering wheel until your rag joint is back in place. tightn it up at the rag joint then modify your column bracket and tighten it and the firewall nuts and bolts....i did it the hard way so im not sure but it looks like you can do it without removal. dont forget to take your dash bezel off and your orange shifter needle loose or it will break...theres a spring and a peice of thread attached to the column that needs to be unhooked then re-hooked when done

it's one of those "oh man, i hope im not messing up im truck thing" when i was doing it, but it ended up working out. make sure it's really what you want to do before you tap the shaft in...theres no turning back after that.

Funny- I have an old school 1.5 din Alpine I am thinking about running in my CC with a pair of 90's style GS Redline Subs. Just spent 3 Grand putting a nav system with 15's in my Daily Driven passat- gonna keep the truck as simple as I can.

i just run a bleutooth radio (handsfree phone) and a tomtom navigation
the navigation could be put inside the dash too if you do a little fabricating and remake the round clip on mount so you can fasten it in the hole of the dash schould be a lot cheaper and you can use the nav even when youre using the phone
i had a loud JL alpine system in my first car but the high soundpressure got tiring on driving long stretches and it used a lot of boothspace
i now just use upgraded speakers in the stock locations (ok i drive a modern car they usually have better thought out speakersetups/placements anyway ) and a little hideaway woofer under the rearseat for some extra power , its enough
