Question Disk Brakes

I am somewhat new to this group here. Lurking for quite some time now. I'm good at it Any way...as it is I have a 52 GMC Suburban. I hope to upgrade the engine this year to one of the 302 Jimmy inlines. When this is done I also want to put disk brakes on it with the original axle. Has anyone done this to their truck. Any pros/cons. I would like to know what kind of rotor fits the stock hub if you have that info. I may make my own mounts for the calipers and build it up from there. Any thoughts or experiences will be greatly appreciated.

First of all:
..to the board from out of the shadows!

I haven't but, that's the direction that I'm going as well. If you don't get any feed back, try posting in the suspension section also.
So, where are the pictures??!!!

Welcome to the boards.Haven't seen that upgrade done.Other than stopping there would really be no improvment.

hey rick if ya still cant figger it out send them to me & i'll post them.....joe

1st look rite below ur reply page & u'll see "Additional Options" & in that section u'll see
"Attach Files
Valid file extensions: bmp doc gif jpe jpeg jpg pdf png psd txt zip" <~~ just be sure they are these type file or they wont post. that is were u download ur pic to so they will show up on the site. the easiest way i have found to turn them into a "Jpeg or Jpe" file is to copy the pic & send it to urself. then downloaded it to a floppy/disc or ur computor (remember what u name it) so it's saved. then when u post u just capture the pic from ur file & download it to the site....hope this helps....joe

Ok...here goes. Let's see if I do this right! These two shots are pretty much as it sets right now. I have not worked on it much in the past year. My hopes are to get it painted this season and then progress on the interior.

Another Project

Here is a view of a 49 GMC that I am working on too. I am putting it on a half ton frame and using a Pacer front suspension with a Firebird rear disk axle. 302 Inline Jimmy backed with a T-5 tranny. It outta be a fun ride!

Man! That 53 is going to be nice! Back when I bought my 54, that was the truck that I saw that made me want one. There was a teenage that drove his dad's through our neighborhood. Just primer gray, with a 283 in it. I decide I had to have one and found mine through a friend. Drove it for a while then it needed transmission work. Life changes, job changes, ect, etc...
15 years (+) later, I'm on a mission.....

Thanks! I got some pics of when I first got it, but they are too big to upload. I have a bunch of "in process" pics too. If I remember right I bought it in the summer of 2000. I started tearing it apart right away. It was at my Mom's house at the time and she was starting to fade, ( she was 89 ) so my time to fix it was going to go away when she passed. Unfortunately she did and so did my nice garage space. But I will get some work done on it this year. Last year I drove it to many events with the truck club I am in and did not work on it hardly at all. I really want to do more to it so I don't lose interest!

Depends on how much you really like it. I went years with it in my gargage(s) over the years. There's several times that it made since to sell it. It even made it through a divorce years ago.
Keep us posted!
