4th door "vent window" removal

Ok so i have never worked on 4th "door" windows before. I did a quick search but did not find anything. I am trying to remove the little window from the 4th door spot on a 72 suburban. I already have the roll down window and the regulator out but can't get the little window to budge. I just assumed it was wedged in with the rubber. What am i missing? I don't want to break it.

thanks
Richard

Re: 4th door "vent window" removal

Do you have the divider bar out? If not there is a sort of hidden screw at the top that is under the window channel felt, and 2 at the bottom of the bar that can be removed from the inside if the 2nd row seat is removed. Be careful on the top screw it will strip easily. When the divider bar screws are out the rubber is all that is holding the bar and the glass in. I used lots of soap, some nylon pry sticks, and an old flexible putty knife to get them out. One came out after 20 minutes or so, but the other one I argued with for about an hour. My thread Working Man's Burban has some more info and some photos on this at post 30 and after.
Good luck.

Thanks for the response. I do have the divider and the little screw out of the top. I even went so far as to remove all the screws under the top and side rubber channels thinking the metal door trim had to come off but no luck getting that apart either. I am guessing it is just stuck from 40 plus years. I will take a look at your thread as well.

Richard

Re: 4th door "vent window" removal

I was told that a hair dryer can soften the rubber, but I have never tried it. I used the putty knife to work soap in all around the frame and glass. I would have left the seals in but the bottom on one side was so deformed you could drop a dime in inside the door.

I just used a utility knife and cut the rubber away until I was able to grab with my palms on both sides and pull the window out of the seal and then I was able to pull the remainder of the seal out.

I changed all my seals already in the 4th door and I can still put coins down there if I want. I think it is just poorly fitting from GM.

It is a poor design. I have a fix in mind to make it better, but I am waiting on new seals to try it out. I will post my results.

Finally got the glass out and managed to save the gasket as well. But now my passenger door won't shut. Coincidence or maybe a body mount gave out?
