Work truck...


I see these older trucks all the time actually being used for what they were built for. As long as it will run and drive they keep them in use.

These are a few trucks that Kevin Gramentz (bowtie truck stop aka daburb) was selling...
















I bought myself a cobra hauler. Decent trailer for a decent price. A month from now I'll be picking it up in MA and hauling it home.


I got the trailer in Tracy, MN west of me about 50 miles. There was a shop there with this truck for sale...


In one of the Ford dealers I did an inspection at they have their whole library of service manuals in the basement. I think I might have posted pics of this before, but it's been 2 years at least.








There were a few pieces of old shop equipment down there also. I could use this old bumper jack...


Need to turn down some brakes?






No need for these now when you can get cheap drums and rotors from asia for less than the labor cost to clean up the old parts. And since the new vehicles are all using the cheaper lighter parts there is nothing left of them to turn down anyway and still have them in spec. The only reason to have this anymore is for old car restoration work where new parts are no longer available.

Another work truck. Probably gets used in the spring to haul seed to the fields.


I was going through Breckenridge and Wahpeton and came across this old kit car. Pretty sure its a fiero/lamborghini.


I love seeing the hot rods out on the highway and not just to go to a show somewhere...

I used a lathe like that at an auto parts store job I had during college ( 25 years ago ). Brake jobs were so much cheaper back then for the shop doing it due to the good thick old rotors/drums. 15 bucks for the turn another 10-15 for a set of pads and the job is done for 30 bucks plus a bit of labor.

We pretty much had a constant back-log of rotors and drums stacked up to be turned all the time. That machine chugged through the worst of them without issue.

I used a brake lathe like that when I was in design school only it was about 3-4 times larger. I was turning tractor/trailer drums and we left the wheels and tires on them!!!!

Out near Lisbon, ND I drove past this place with more than the usual amount of old iron in the weeds. Once the work part of my trip was done, I stopped by and looked around. I didn't. There was no house on the property but it could be the place next door. There were 2 Diamond Reo's there! If you're really interested we could probably figure out who owns it.

Some random stuff here. The crusty lowrider was in Springfield, MN.


This one was parked outside a repair shop in Olivia, MN. I've been through there many times and this shop usually has some good stuff to work on. I've posted pics from there before...




Pretty good sized compressor, the motors of this style are fairly rare anymore, but I still see them from time to time...




I had an inspection in Little Falls, my home town. It was not far from a spot where my dad took me and my sisters fishing way back when. This is Little Elk River, right by where it flows into the Mississippi. We would stand on the huge rocks that over hang the banks. Back then you could see to the bottom. In the spring when the suckers were running they would be in groups and you could almost pick which fish you were going to drop your bait in front of and pull him up. I snagged a snapping turtle once too. My dad pulled it out and had it hanging from a tree because my grandpa would want it for soup, then some guy asked if he could have it, so no turtle soup.

For many years the area was closed off as private property, but it's now state land and a part of the Lindberg park system. Walking through there brought back a lot of memories, all good. My dad died about 13 years ago. I want to go back when I have time and walk those woods. It wasn't allowed back when I was a kid, now it has trails marked. I believe it was the site of a mill, maybe the first one in the area. Maybe there is something there left of that.

I was on my way to Williston, ND, which is a big oil field area now. I think I found a future truck project...




Just west of Minot is a place selling a ton of classics. Check out hotrodgarage.net if you see anything you can't live without. I only looked at the stuff at the entrance, since I didn't have permission to go further and had an appointment to make.






































This was at the gas station in Minot a few minutes later. The owner said he got it as a gift from his parents for graduation or something, several years ago. He drove it for a while, then it was parked for about 11 years. Last year he decided to get it back on the road. Put gas in it and a battery, put air in the tires and drove it out of the field. Pretty decent survivor.


Probably where I'll end up in my final days (daze)...

More nice pics again Mike! I love that KW on monster truck tires. It would be a great day to drive it around. i'm sure it must haul oil rigs or some other monstrosity through the sloppy rivers etc. I hope you have a great Independence Day as well and travel safe to go get your new Cobra!

Not for a while. I have a house to finish and 3 current truck projects. Probably next year. If I can afford the drive train and other parts needed to finish it.

At least you have a Start! That is what got me in trouble, I did have extra projects and never got any of them Done. Now it's ONE thing at a time. Have you ever had a thought about writing a Book about your Travels and Your Finds along the way? If Not I'm grateful that you do take us along on your trips.

Thought about it. Briefly. I'm a big reader and know my limitations. This is my outlet for the time being. Maybe some day in the distant future I could publish something but probably not. I'll be busy in my shop.
