Re: Fixin Dixie - 66 Short Bed Fleetside- Diary

Hey Rocknrod, yeah since my original thread is useless thanks to Photobucket Im reliving where Ive been so I can have the timeline with pics. Time consuming, I should be in the garage instead getting somewhere. I try to add the dates of the original post at the top of each entry.

Re: Fixin Dixie - 66 Short Bed Fleetside- Diary

April 2014

On the air compressor setup I had bought the compressor at Lowes and had it delivered, then hired an electrician to wire it up, then ran my pipes and hoses soldering as I went (first time for everything), then went to craigslist and found a used mini fridge, drilled holes in it to run the lines and ended up rendering the fridge useless as an auto coolant since I drilled my holes right through the coolant lines in the side of the fridge. So what I do now is fill the bucket up with ice each time i run paint, then have to siphon it out once it melts down to room temp. Diagrams arent hard to find online, I should have looked up where the lines were on that model. Just damn.

I had hoped to get more panels painted that weekend but the sandblaster place was running behind. So I took time to strip down the fogged up and semi-pitted anodized aluminum custom cab trim plates and the front grill. Used oven cleaner to remove the anodized coating and then wet sanded with 600 up to 2000 paper and then tried out the polishing attachment to the drill with high gloss polishing compound.

After using the oven cleaner

All the sandblasted parts have been working out great except what I saw in the front bed panel. Its pretty rusted in that rolled top portion and I just dont see spending the time trying to make that right and get the rust out altogether. This one is gonna get repopped.

The radiator support had a badly rusted spot at the base so I took a shot at cutting a patch from some scrap and get it fixed.

Tonight I was able to get the rear axle free. Now its a decision to either have it sandblasted by the shop or wire brush it if sand becomes a no no with this part of the truck.

Took the doors off and cut out the base of the doors where they were rusted, then took them to the sand blasters to get done inside and out.

Took the tires with rims to a tire shop and had them removed so the rims could get blasted. And also took a bed side panels down to the blaster.

MSG,
It's good to document your build. Especially useful for insurance reasons, hoping you never need it. Also useful if you ever sell.

I use Weebly.com to document my build. Totally Free! No spam or annoying emails. You can edit, delete, add pages with multiple categories etc. You have total control. You can add a comments section and delete any comment that's not appropriate etc. Total control.

I've been using my free Weebly website for over 5 years. Posting pics is a breeze and you can edit.

Take a look at mine - HERE. I promise I won't be offended if you decide against it.

You don't have to stop posting here. I still post my progress occasionally. I just don't have a build page on here.
