Re: 70cst 4wd conversion

Vintage, I'm going to tell him to stay away from the axles and i'll knock those down with an angle grinder, but other than that i'm not too worried about it.

Update time: Not much of an update, but did get the frame loaded up to take to the sandblasters tomorrow. If it's too hot i'll probably wait to spray the chassis saver paint til the morning one early morning. Took a couple of pics with my phone of the frame loaded up. The box on the front of the trailer is a storage/winch box. The box has a battery in it wired up to the trailer wiring so it charges from the pickup. It's a pretty slick set up. I'll get a few pictures of the after sandblasting and before/after of paint.

Re: 70cst 4wd conversion

Got it sandblasted and painted tonight. Used a devilbiss hvlp gun with my 30 gallon air compressor. Compressor had a little trouble keeping up and it took me a while to get the consistency and the gun dialed in, but once I did i got on a little bit of a roll. Once the fog clears tomorrow I will touch up what I missed and maybe another coat. On to the pictures.

Re: 70cst 4wd conversion

Hey fellas!!

Sorry for no updates for so long. I got engaged 2 weeks ago and all my extra cash flow has gone to that and will continue to go to the wedding and planning. So unless I have any extra extra extra cash flow not a whole lot will be getting done to the poor truck. At least I have the frame painted, I don't think I could stand looking at an old dirty/rusty frame everyday.

Re: 70cst 4wd conversion

Hey guys,
Lots of progress since the last time I posted. All, new brakes, front wheel bearings, shocks, got ralleys blasted and painted, new center caps, shined up the rings, tires. Got everything I need to get the body on and get it running. New hooker ceramic coated headers. I've got all of next week off to try and get this thing as close to road ready as I possibly can. Just finished up the front end tonight, with all new ball joints, bearings, rotors, calipers, etc. Snapped a few pictures for you guys tonight. I will take some progress pics next week when I hopefully get the cab and front end mounted at least.

Re: 70cst 4wd conversion

Had a great week of progress. Got the motor, tranny, cab, and bed mounted. Got everything painted that needed to be painted. Still have to cut and buff some of it, mostly the driver door. It has a lot of orange peel, the fenders and cowl turned out pretty good. Still have to put the headers and exhaust on it, get it aligned, tie rod ends and transfer case. Also put new bearings in the rear, it chatters like crazy. Any how on to some pictures.....

The first ones are of the frame leaving my house. Got it to my folks and had the motor and tranny in that day. Cab came on the next, which was last sunday(13th). Then the next 4-5 days all ran together doing body work.

Re: 70cst 4wd conversion

Long hours, small update. Well i've been working on it every chance I get that i'm at my folks and have free time. My dad was around Sunday so I had him help me with all the 2 man stuff. I got my new rad support put on(old one was tweaked), fenders mounted, hood mounted*, cab aligned and bolted down, bed aligned(needs tightened), and transfer case installed. Took us a good portion of the morning and afternoon, but we got it done. I could have gotten more done but I had to go take engagement pictures with my fiance. All in all a good days work that really made me feel better about getting this on the road in the next 6 months or so....hopefully.

*we went to mount the hood and it was off by about an inch on the dr rear and pass front. So off comes the hood and we square up the rad support and tighten it down, then I get to looking at the hood and it is tweaked in from the crash on the dr rear portion of it. A little help from a couple pieces of iron, a block of wood, and a handyman jack we got it straightened back out and it looks pretty dang good.

To do list:
u-joints on drive shafts
front pinion seal
rebuild rear end(bearings, seals)
mount 4wd shifter(needs hole cut)
install radiator and finish up the engine work
tranny linkage
front end alignment
exhaust

Re: 70cst 4wd conversion

Got another update finally. It's finally road worthy and street legal. It's far from "finished" but they never are finished are they!? Anyway, since about October we've been waiting on about 3 things to get done to get it on the road. Those were rebuild the rear end, alignment and exhaust. We got those 3 things done in about a 2 week span and I put a little over 100 miles on it over easter weekend cruising around to family events. Felt good to get back in it and drive around. It's been almost 6 1/2 years since i've been out on the road with it. I didn't think to take any pictures but I pulled these 2 off of my aunts facebook page. Mine is obviously the red one. The one in the middle is my cousins 69 2wd that he got off an old man. Really, really clean old truck. The GMC is my dads 71 4wd with factory tach and buckets that he got off an old man that had been sitting in a pasture for the last handful of years.

On with the pictures....

Re: 70cst 4wd conversion

Not much of an update, but I've got a few pictures of it all cleaned up. It's been slow going, got married June 1st and we honeymooned right after. We are trying to sell our house and move 40 miles away because we will both be working there. Just the joys of life.

I got the speedo cable hooked up just need to get a speedo corrector gear.
New fuel sending unit.
Got my new trim in from Mar-K (great place btw!!!) Not looking forward to this. Anyone have any tips on drilling holes in fenders?
Right now I have the rear end up on jack stands fixing a rear outer axle seal and bearing.
Got the driver door wet sanded and buffed out.

Still lots of little things to do;
Paint and install inner fenders
install trim
install headliner
install sun visors
install tailgate
order and install back of cab trim

I'm sure there are other things I am missing. Oh well, at least it's a running driving truck (once I get the rear axle fixed) and it feels nice.

On to the 2 pictures I took of it right after a nice long overdue hand wash.

ALSO, don't be too harsh on my body lines. If I could do it over again I probably would, but this is going to be a driver and occasional show, not a pure show truck.

Re: 70cst 4wd conversion

Bringing this one back from the dead. I'm really bad at updating so these pictures are from the last few years. It mostly sits in my garage right now. Need to get a new gas tank and a few other things to make it more reliable. But here are the pics I do have it, not many changes have been made since these. Need to get it out and drive it more than anything.
