Re: 1967 c-10 4x4 build

i feel like i havent been on here in forever, and i just wanted to give you guys a little update. i ran into a brick wall the other day. the wheel cyliner that NAPA gave me wont go in far enough to accomadate the one shoe, and i've put all 190 of me into it. its hard trying to get the problem sorted out only having a little 1-2 hour window after school, before the sun sets.

im still trying to find a name if anyone can help me with that one. i want it to be unique. well, when i get this wheel cyliner figured out, then i only have one, and then i can get moving again on the progress.

i think next im going to take the seat/console out and remove the carpet..its normal house carpet, and it looks like hell. i'd rather have a normal metal floor for the time being. maybe some bed liner would look nice.

I know what you mean about the 1-2 hour after school. Sucks, doesn't it lol. My brother was talking about using bed liner on the floor of his F-250, I think that would be cool. better than s**** carpet or old worn out paint imo especially on a 4x4 where your going to be getting crap all over your floor carpet would jsut get destroyed. Keep the progress up!

not literally its hard to run into a brick wall, when you can't even get it off the jacks. hahahaha

thats exactly what im thinking. i want it to be a practical truck, not one where i need to take my boots off to drive, because im afraid of ruining the carpet.

the trucks in my family are used like intended, and thats what i plan on using this one for too. its not gonna be a sunday driver. and i'd feel terrible putting my muddy/snowy boots on a 200 dollar carpet. and bedliner is nice, because a few minutes with the vaccum and it looks like you never had any mud there. but that involves taking the seat out, so i need to wait a bit(at least till i get it together).

i also plan on putting an exhaust on it, because the last guy had duals, and they've seen better days. theres pretty much no muffler left
i was thinking maybe side pipes?

wrong WC. hope to sort out the problem. i also called justdashes today for a price on their 3 gauge dash pad for the 67-72's as i find them very slick. hope to get her put back together within the next 2 or 3 days, so i can start driving the wheels off her again.

Re: 1967 c-10 4x4 build

One thing to consider when removing the carpet and just spraying bed lining isyou loose a lot of your sound deadener and your insulation. I know what you mean about not wanting to get carpet dirty, but that's why they invented floor mats and carpet cleaner. I hate the look of a plain floor, or one that looks like a bed floor. IMO

i have thought about that. its not like the carpet does that much in the first place...its very very old, thin house carpet, so its not like it does much in the dirst place, and between the exhaust and the tires, theres no way this truck will ever be quiet again. and i have thought about trying to see if bed liner would roll/spray onto sound deadener, but im not there yet. im curious to see though.

and like you said you dont like the look of a bed floor, everyones entitled to their own opinion. hey, i might not even like it, but you never know if you dont try it right? its only money

and i might buy carpet way down the road, but id rather have something respectable, and mechanically sound then "ohhh fancy carpet". ya know? i dont want someone to look inside and be like "house carpet?" its up in the air still, but im really considering it.

being 15, this is MY first truck. like many guys out there, i made the money working all summer long. fixing up trucks for me is sort of a new thing, and you must remember how crazy you were as a kid im used to making trucks how people want them, and its sort of nice being able to do whatever i want and not needing to worry about anyones opinion.

if i didnt like it, id put sound deadener right over top, and i planned on doing a lot in bed liner anyway (all the wells, the inside of the bed, etc.)

Re: 1967 c-10 4x4 build

I'm planning on doing this to my next resto job, but it will be more of a rust proofing than a interior layer. I agree if you don't like it you can always put mat and carpet over it. Just make sure you find all your rusty areas and repair them, or atleast mark it down, before you spray your liner on the floor.

Re: 1967 c-10 4x4 build

thanks for the advice! luckily, the P.O replaced the floors. the bed and doors are gonna be the bad parts with rust. and i plan on replacing the bed altogether, but the doors are FULL of bondo. im gonna take them down to my bud that owns a body shop and see if he can save them, because for around 3-400 bucks a pop, i'll have more in the doors then i did the rest of the truck. the bed is fixable too, but by the time i fix everything right, it would be more locical to get a new bed.

i plan on making the bed look good for now, but i dont want to hit a bump one day and have some bondo fall off

i have plans for this being a 2+ year project. i hope for it to be my senior project, but being a freshman now, we're technically arent supposed to start until sophmore year(if we get permission with the head school people), and junior otherwise. but i hope to either just fudge the dates a bit, or just pray they understand, because this would be one heluva senior project.

Re: 1967 c-10 4x4 build

good: i finally got the right wheel cylinder!!! and i intallled it, and bled the brakes.

bad:it still skids the tire on that side like it did before.

i guess for every few steps one way, you need to have a few the other!

Re: 1967 c-10 4x4 build

I agree with the bed linner in the cab, even with the carpet i have now from the PO its still loud and im 19 so i dont care about noiseand ill put floor matts in there once i bed liner it. My truck is going to be a daily driver summer and winter so its going to see salt, rocks, and everything else out there. The truck lasted 40 years and looked good before doing a restore and as long as you wash it take care of it and maintain it rust shouldnt be too big of a problem. Im going to coat the wheel wells with bed liner but my cab bed and frame will all be por 15 because ive heard horror stories of bed liner getting salt and water up underneath it and actually rusting the trucks out... I figure if i wash it every week(have a heated shop)and keep it waxed and take care of it through the winter and every spring and fall inspect the truck for chips and things like that and fix it i shouldnt have a problem. Jake its nice to see someone else around my age thats doing builds on trucks like these most the people around here that i know are into rice rockets and imports and thats never been my style...

Re: 1967 c-10 4x4 build

welp, got the driver side wheel cylnder replaced today and bled the brakes, took her for a spin and the front passenger side is still skidding. so there will be a while before theres more pictures with me doing much, because i want to be able to stop and go before anything else.
lets look at the good side...theres no problem with going.
