Re: 1985 TBI Canadian Plainsman

SPID VIN is physically cut out: that is very suspicious and very unfortunate.

IP = instrument panel (sorry bout that).

Re: 1985 TBI Canadian Plainsman

I just figured that was done by the conversion ppl because of all the inside changes and never worried about it.but i read somewhere here they would have to keep the truck dash vin even if it was a frame/other type of swap.is it legal to remove/alter that sticker?it says do not remove........

Re: 1985 TBI Canadian Plainsman

It's not illegal to remove the SPID: it says "Do Not Remove" as a customer convenience, so that you have all the RPO/Service information for future use. Like the tags on your mattress....

It is, however, illegal to alter or remove/replace the VIN tag on the IP (sorry - Instrument Panel )

Re: 1985 TBI Canadian Plainsman

The more you describe this the more is sounds like a frame/drive train swap. The body was probably a Vacation Customs conversion and has been swapped to a different frame. If the truck spent any time in Texas that would be a good possibility because as I stated the title and VIN stays with the body not the frame/drive train. If memory serves Vacation customs was in Mansfield Texas and went bankrupt in the late 80s. The only thing you can confirm with any of the evidence is the suburban is not factory stock and probably isn’t even in the same condition as when it left the conversion plant.

Re: 1985 TBI Canadian Plainsman

Keith was right it had to be a later year ,confirmed within 2hours @ local police. It's a 88 so i take it to be a reg 4x4 1/2 and seriously thanks, they said it could have been seized,on the side of the road,as is where is with contents, till proven mine.they are following up some paper work to get it revinned as a 88,which i think is the year of the other truck here with a conversion done by them.

Sorry to hear that. Now begins the battle with the insurance company over how much your Suburban is worth.

Re: 1985 TBI Canadian Plainsman

I think it's more like 5000.00 to replace a working 4x4 suburban regardless of rust.
plus me investing in doors etc for this project

I need to send her links to a truck that is comparable.......sounds like a new thread .......
