I am looking a set of 15x10 6 bolt slots...I can buy an original set that need some major polishing, or purchase the new slots made by US Mags, does anyone have experience with these? Are they clearcoated? Easy to keep polished?

I had a set, and they were not clear coated. I just washed them since brake dust took more elbow grease then I cared for.

A friend at the time had a polished set he clear coated himself, and up keep was easy. I believe he said he heavily cleared them on both sides so brake dust wouldn't stick.

If not cleared like mine they get dull from brake dust, and metal porosity.

I have heard now there is a clear powder coat. If it is available I would go for this.

My buddy bought a set of circa 1970s slots from Carlise swap meet a few years ago. He had a local metal polisher do them up and they stay pretty good with regular cleaning. Don't let brake dust sit on them for more than a week or so. also beware of stiff brishes and "spray and rinse" wheel cleaners unless specifically for polished aluminium. With regular washing, a soft brush with car wash soap and water should be adequate.

I bought some new 14" wide american racing slots in the early 80s and just washed them regularly.

I bought some used cast slots and spent several days grinding them down roloc disks and eventually polishing finer and finer with compound and rouge from the local Kenworth dealer. They had the buffing pads and everything there. Those wheels were pitted or it was just cast pores but they came out really nice.

I bought some used mickey thompson/alcoa slots that were in good shape and just needed a hand polish. They are forged with no cast pores, very strong and easy to keep clean. Very very hard to find now and very expensive if the seller knows what he has. Mine had some off brand center caps in them and the price was right for used cast wheels. I got there, looked at the back and happily gave him cash and got the heck out of there.

I love slots on early Broncos, Jeeps, Scouts, and old Chevys
