67 C20.Now a K. Just for fun.

About a year ago I drug this 67 home for parts. I took a liking to it and the blue over red brushed on paint job and the trucks personality. I was without a project so I decided to convert it to 4 wheel drive. I added a pto driven military surplus winch and got the 292 running well. It’s lots of fun to drive around. Heater works well.

I like it! Did you swap a K frame under it or add axle/t-case etc to existing?

37 inch military tires on 16.5 wheels. The drivetrain and spring hangers and springs are 1976 K20 4 inch lift springs in front and a big stack of springs in the back with a Eaton rear differential. It’s basically a frankinstien but it drives pretty well.

Added mostly 76 K20 parts. Rear differential is 70 vintage. 4:10 gears. Moved the spring perches to make it work. Lots of fabrication and welding. Took a little from different threads on here.

Nice. I love '67/'68s with 292s.
Extra points for the Cop Spot.

67s and 292s are unique in several ways. Took me some time to find the engine cross member. I added power steering and used Davis parts for the brackets. Gathering parts and making them work is enjoyable.

Re: 67 C20.Now a K. Just for fun.

My Grandson Jace loves it. We call it the hoopty truck. I am going to put antique plates on it and drive it some. I have 40 acres and a creek and some wet spots for added fun. I don’t have the driveshaft for the winch rigged up yet.

Thank you. Many people would say “that’s a lot of work”. I say “ I didn’t have a hour of work in it”. It’s good fun.

You got my vote, Nice ( Fun) on the truck project.
I will have to remember that phrase.
I hear that a lot on some of my projects

I acquired a 292-only crossmember for a future K/5 L6 project. They are like Hen's Teeth. I didn't know they were necessary for K/20s.
I tried putting P/S on a '67 K/10 Suburban [w/454]. It was a disaster. Gearbox kept tearing loose, and it had a wider turning radius than the RMS Queen Mary. I tried to restore it back to manual, but we cut up the OEM draglink, and I never got its old steering geometry back right. I think a new front end from a '72-era Blazer -- with P/S, P/B and open knuckle Dana 44 -- would be the cure.
But the '68 Stepside and '71 Jimmy are licensed and running so they have priority over any projects.
I do have 2 more 292 cores standing by.

Great looking truck. You saved her from the looks of the before and after.
