Re: 1979 Chevy build

yea alot of people have no clue about them, but these are older ones also, i still have the original boxes they were never used till i put them in my truck. Cerwin vega is still around and makes some good subwoofers, but they dont offer any shallow mount ones. I will be eventually making a new box and put new kenwood shallow mount subs with a 2000 wat amp. The box i have rite now is to big for my liking i had to move the seat a little to far up i will have pictures up of the interior tomorrow for sure. But still anyone on here can help me with my leaf spring questions

Re: 1979 Chevy build

thanks man and i have no clue the truck has always been this height since my uncle first got it when i was super little, all i know is its done wrong, cut coils and there is only 2leafs with the overload in the rear doesnt ride bouncy though. i will eventually redo the suspension again with tubular a-arms and drop spindels with a flip kit in the rear.

Re: 1979 Chevy build

Here is the begingin of doing the lowering job and puting in the new shocks.
84.

All the suspension is now dirty sucks need to get in there and clean it good.
85.

86.

Here are the new front shocks installed in the front these are summit brand shocks they work good ride nice and smooth.
87.

Here it is just before i get rid of the rake look.
88.

89.

90.

91.

OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH YYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAA that good old fink watcha got on that jacket ahhaha.. But okay i ordered new shocks and 2" drop shackels for the rear all summit brand, i paid the price for summit brand drop shackels and they are actually repackaged ground force drop shackels, if you have never done this it is fairly easy but yet time comsuming you have to notch out the support bar on the bed it is in a odd place to do if your on the ground but is possible, they recomened removing the bed but thats just to much out of the way just for a 2" drop, i like the new stance of the truck looks good to me!!

Re: 1979 Chevy build

hahah id talk all day bout classics, and as far as final drop not sure truck was the stance it use to be as long as it has been in my familys hands, it only has 3 leafs in the rear and the front coils are cut, i added the 2 inch drop shackle, i will eventually find a full leaf pack and do a flip kit and drop spindels and springs up front.

Re: 1979 Chevy build

Man you have done a great job with that truck. Love that you have restored a square body. I love mine and drive it every day. The fact that you are only 18 is even better. You have a truck that you restored. You should be very proud of your work. Great Job and keep us updated with lots of pictures .

Re: 1979 Chevy build

thanks man and i always try to do something to the truck to keep posting updates, interior pics very soon, and i ordered a polyurathane bushing set from summit, it came with all the bushings (sway bar, tie rod dust covers, a-arms, motor mounts, transmission mount, radiator support mounts, cab mounts, and leaf spring and shackles) it was a damn good kit it rides good with them on, just need to do the leaf spring ones and theyll all be in kit was around 250 if i remember correctly,

Re: 1979 Chevy build

well id like to just put it out there that i got all this money to build my truck from mowing yards and doing side jobs on cars and what ever else. Im in the truck about 3,500 roughly, it currently has close to 8,000 miles on it now and runs perfect, for doing the work myself i feel great about that because i built the engine myself and saved money over sending it to a shop to get built. my whole thing is that you can achieve anything you want in life there is no such thing as the impossible there is always a way and i just never give up, i get frustrated at times but you have to just calm down and keep going at it and everything will land up good. the truck is my pride and joy people ask me who built it and how much did i buy it for and i tell them buy haha built it myself and the first response i get is you must be rich or something and hell no not at all its all saving up for the build, i also have a 54 cadillac if any of you want to see it let me know i will send you a link for the pictures.
