Help with brake lines
I'm going to build my first set of brake lines for my truck. wilwood discs all the way around. 1-1/8 bore wilwood master with proportion valve (haven't bought yet). 9" dual diaphragm booster mounted on the firewall. Never done this before and am wondering if anyone knows of a build thread showing details on this. Need to figure out design and will buy a good flaring tool.
I've got the wilwood braided adapter kit for the front I routed that to come through inner fender about as high as the valve covers. I see it's usually anchored to frame so I might have to rethink. For the rear I'm thinking all hard lines but I'm not sure on design or routing. Any insight appreciated. |

Inner fender is designed to move independent of the frame so you would need flex on each side or hard line with grommet to allow movement. I got a vintage Imperial Flaring tool at a machinists living estate sale and it worked fine. I used pre fitted line from NAPA to minimize the number joints I had to make, usually only needed one per piece. I also bought a good quality bender, inexpensive ones will kink steel line. I used old metal coat hangers to mock up the line routing and bends, basically following the stock routing. My MC is under the floor on the frame rail. Here are some photos. I got the braided lines and adapters directly from Russell.

imo... a good bender is crucial to a nice job, i was lucky my work had one
a tube specific bender makes short tight bends and can get close to a nut or fitting don't try to use the universal 3 or 4 size benders as they all bend at the large tubing size look on ebay for used 3/16 tube bender these are worth $100 each if bought new currently $10 on ebay with 14 hrs left having 3/16 and 1/4 would make for nice fuel line bends too  this is a cheap but good 1/4 bender, the bends would be a little bigger than a 3/16 bender but it will do 3/16 fine

I went with this tool. Looks the same as the Eastwood. Got this wilwood master, some nickel copper 3/16", a bunch of other stuff to hopefully get the job done.
