Arrow Build-up of project "Turning Point".

I purchased this project truck (2001 Silverado LS) w/ 3,000 miles thinking it would only need minor work to be finished. That meant a full-bed skin and finishing the interior. The more my good friend/boss and I got into it, the more work we found. When finished, this truck will serve as my daily driver and rolling business card for Darkstar Fabrication.

Project 1: Fabricate a bolt-on coolant overflow tank bracket.

Re: Build-up of project "Turning Point".

Project 2: Full bed skin w/ false floor.

The factory bed floor was cut out and aside from looking horrible, the bed was in need of support. We built a frame using rectangle tubing (Forget the exact size of the material), used 18-gauge sheetmetal on the sides and 16-gauge sheetmetal for the floor.

The bed will be seam sealed using a self-leveling product when the bed goes into the shop to be re-painted. We burned the paint in several spots.

Project 3: Coming soon! The bed is off and the rear suspension is being redone. The parts list includes an ART stainless steel parallel 4-link, Firestone F9000 air springs to be mounted behind-the-axle, 12-way adjustable QA1 shock absorbers, two stainless steel 5-gallon air tanks, two Viar 480c compressors, and BIGRed valves.

Re: Build-up of project "Turning Point".

Here's a picture of the original backhalf designed and built by Bill Dermond. It was later taken to another shop to be repaired but instead they ruined it.....as you can see in the bed progress pictures. There was allot of metal on metal contact and other issues.

Here's a picture of the truck before the de-construction began.

Re: Build-up of project "Turning Point".

We haven't taken many pictures of the rear suspension progress until recently. Still on the list to-do is mount the fuel cell, shock absorbers, panhard bar, and fabricate bed mounts. After that, it will be blown apart and the bodywork/paint begins. More pictures soon to come.
