Re: a/c vent box

I got this installed last week, along with corvettejim's AC center vent. Unfortunately, no pics of the exterior completed, but I got some under the dash. It fit somewhat tight, but it did fit, with clearance from the windshield wiper motor, the installed speakers and everything else. I didn't have the cut template, but got it done. Scary cutting up the dash, let me tell you, and the template being provided now is a great addition.

I installed two center 4.5 inch coax speakers using the stock speaker mount cut to screw them onto the old speaker frame. I could modify it some more to gain probably almost an inch total clearance by mounting the speakers as far forward as possible and bending it up towards the windshield slightly. My speakers are 1.9685 (49mm) installed depth. Additionally, my tweeters stuck up above the mounting surface of the coax speaker, so if your choice were flush, it SHOULD clear just fine. But you'll have to do your own measuring, I take no responsibility, just relating my experience, hoping it helps someone out.
Hope the pics show up and help with any questions. Forum is only allowing one pic at a time.

Re: a/c vent box

Pic 2. There is a little flexibility to move the radio and vent to allow future AC hose hookup, Vintage Air is next, hopefully.

Re: a/c vent box

thanks for the pictures the radio is definitely larger than mine and wow I don't believe you got the speakers in there, your radio appears up a little in the back if you lowered it you would have better access to the vent tube thanks again Doug

I think the radio looking larger is just because of the angles and close proximity of the lens to the radio. It's a standard size single DIN radio. I merely instAlled the radio tight to the angle of the dash opening hole that the PO had cut the hole. Had to tweak the hole a bit to clean it up and make the mounting sleeve that came with the radio fit. There is PLENTY of wiggle room to move the rear of the head unit down to connect hoses to the vent tubes, so don't let that closeness scare you off from buying this, it will not be an issue.
As for the speakers, if I had started with just mounting them as far forward toward the windshield as possible and bent the old speaker frame up a little more, there would be quite a bit of clearance. I don't think anyone will have an issue with clearance of those center channel speakers either, unless they use really large speakers there. The stock one, or one with similar measurements as the stock one, should easily clear.

yep that's what I like to see. Had one guy tell me he thought my A/C vent assembly was too much at $300 he said it was worth $150. he has no idea what I have gone through to make these parts by hand here in the U.S.A. you get what you pay for and I will pay for good American parts. Thank you for making these A/C vent boxes.
