Vintage air surefit system.

Has anyone used a vintage air sure fit system? I just ordered one from a local rod shop, Bills Garage and hotrod parts. I had purchased a gen II compact unit and I wanted the deluxe control but found out it wouldn't work with my system so he worked up a deal and let me trade in mine and sold me the sure fit system.

Re: Vintage air surefit system.

I've used one of their surefit kits but it went into my '61 chevy wagon... everything fit nice but i ended up have a couple hoses made up myself because i wanted to run them a little different that they had planed. put a few of the kits in but most of the time its just buying different parts and and making them work for what every car or truck we're working on.. i've found that V/A has some good people to work with..

Re: Vintage air surefit system.

i didn't like the cheesy plastic fascia they used, thus i went with the compac unit
orrieg hid his cheesy plastic

Re: Vintage air surefit system.

That plastic piece running across under the dash is the big issue for most guys on that setup. If it doesn't bother you you are all set but if it bothers you and looks out of place to you it's a different ballgame. I'm lik Ogre in that I plan on using the compact heat an air unit and just have some discrete vents in the dash.

Re: Vintage air surefit system.

My sure fit install went pretty good: I decided not to use the plastic vents for the left and right side, and mounted them into the actual dash. The 55-59 sure fit does not utilize prefabbed hoses like the later sure fits do, you will have to do you own lines. I have a beadlock crimper, so it was a piece of cake.

Re: Vintage air surefit system.

I bought the new VA GenIV unit which is electronic and has no cables.
I also bought the billet side vents.

I haven't installed it yet but did mock it up in place just to check the fit and get the holes drilled in the proper place.

Re: Vintage air surefit system.

here are a couple shots of the V/A kits installed.. the red dash is my '61 wagon and i painted the part that went under the dash so it would match and kind of go away.. i just could bring myself to cut the dash up on this one... the truck vents were hid behind a panel the interior guy put in i just wish i would have painted it to match the leather better..
