350 to 454?

I know it has probably being asked a thousand times, but I have not been able to find it using "search". Can anyone tell me what modifications would need to be done to change from a 350 to 454 in an 88' suburban, 350 TBI, th400, 3/4 ton, 4:10 rear. All suspension is stock.

thanks

Pretty straightforward swap as far as the actual engine installation. You will need exhaust manifolds, all the accessory brackets, fan and clutch and fan shroud from a big block truck or sub and will have to have your exhaust reworked to accept the BB. You already have a stout transmission so no worries there.

As far as the TBI fuel injection, you will need a BB throttle body and a PROM for the ECM to calculate the proper air fuel ratio and ignition timing for a BB. A high performance Jet Chip would work great. While you are there, you might as well update all the sensors with new BB part numbers as well. (Most are common for BB and SB) Your best bet is to find an 87- 91 big block Suburban to pirate parts from.

Last summer I swapped in a Gen VI 454 HO into my 78 K10 and set it up with accessories and brackets from a 1999 L29 454 but will be running 1993 L19 454 TBI fuel injection by the end of summer….hopefully, depending on other projects (I hate carburetors)

Pictures of the swap in my signature.
