Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions
Great score on a very nice looking truck!
Just out of curiousity, can you take a close-up of the wheel centers. I'm curious to see the sticker that the GTs get. Posted via Mobile Device |

Just the standard GMC stickers...It's almost disappointing.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions
Hello everyone.
First off, thanks to 76HEAVEN for starting this thread as it helped me purchase my 1990 GMC SIERRA ST. After finding out about the rarity of this truck, I new I had to buy it. 5 days after looking at it, I went back one more time, with a friend and cash (just in case), got the price I wanted and drove it home. That was in August 2010. After a few trips to the local pick your part for this and that, buying and selling wheels to get the ones I wanted as my number 2 choice (I wanted the newer spoked chrome ones), getting new tires, installing new CV joints and spending way to much time on an electrical short (next to no turn or brake signals with headlights on) only to find that the frame ground was missing (after pulling the complete lighting harness from battery to bumper out of a used truck). That short made me park the truck, as I cold not get a warm enough day where I had the time to work on it untill May. I now have been driving it for about 3 weeks. I came back here again by needing to fix a loose tilt steering column. So here are a few pictures. I will add some code, interior, engine, etc. pictures when I can. It isn't completely stock, but pretty close. It does have the ST code along with a bright grill code which I have't seen anywhere else yet. But I'm not sure of the mirrors or the chrome front bumper. Oh yes. The wheels. I think it came with the 4X4 ones. I will probably try to get those as I just recently realized the the wheels I have are directional. They only look right on the drivers side. On the passenger side they curve the wrong way. I wish I had seen that while I was wheelin' and dealin' wheels earlier. 305 Auto 4X4 Short Box Factory Flares Power steering, tilt, cruise, intermittent wipers Power windows, locks Air (weak), premium radio, have the period cassette deck (not installed, there is a cd player there at the moment) Bench seat with armrest, sliding rear window Original floormats (I think) Aftermarket sunroof I plan to do more with it - adding some missing period options, replacing worn parts, peformance upgrades, etc., as the bank account allows. I don't need the truck to be showroom stock, I just need it to be mine. It isn't perfect - I like to say "Good from afar, but far from good" - but it has promise. Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions
Thanks all.
I will also show some pictures of another SIERRA ST that I found just around the corner from the daughters house. In pretty rough shape, but it's a driver. And if I'm lucky, in the parking lot at work, I've seen a SONOMA ST, but I never have my camera. I started collecting pictures of the ST since trying to find out anything about them is fairly hard. Except for here. This thread has become a sub ST website for me, and probably others. |

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions
Welcome Canadian. Your black truck is sharp. Did you say you thought it had an RPO code for a chrome grille? That would be really interesting.
As for the red ST, there's a guy who lives/works near me who has a stepper in that same color combo. It's got some rust, but not that much -- just a nonexistant cab corner. It's got what looks like a 4/6 drop on these wheels: I'll have to try to get some pics sometime.

Oil cooler line blew out.
What a mess. At least I made it home. What a pain to replace. Meanwhile, some more of my ST pictures. |

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions
^Deleted, already Somebody musta liked it.
I was in my hometown of Centerville, TN today visiting my folks...we pulled up outside the save-a-lot and there was a little old lady loading groceries into the back of a white 4x4 sport. All the decals were gone and the paint was in sad shape, but it had the red and black emblems on the doors (with no molding), smooth bumpers, and black grille shell. Didn't realize until today that, while 4x2 sports had molding up until 1993, the 4x4s never had it. This has been your nerdy Sport factoid of the day.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions
No, that's what I meant, I just didn't say it very clearly -- the 2wds had it through 92, but dropped it for 93.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions
I had a 93 for about a year and 4 months before it was stolen out of my garage July 31st. I had just finished putting in a 240 hp roller cam roller rocker long block from Bowtie Performance. At the same time I had the 4L60 transmission rebuilt. Along with other things I had about 14000 into it and I was done. The main reason for this post is I want to warn people about your automatic garage door openers. They are not locked at all, just go to youtube and in the search type "open a garage door in 6 seconds". I was dumbfounded! Secure your manual release with either wire or a zip tie. The last picture is the engine when i first got the truck.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions
Good thing my truck is protected by a really crappy garage door with no automatic opener.
Seriously, though, that's a really f'ed up and sad story about what appears to be a really nice truck. |

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions
Yes, changing the oil cooler lines was quite the pain in the but. Mainly access was the issue. Some brackets that had to be moved or loosened just to complete the job. But now, the oil cooler is clean and overhauled, the new lines are in and surprisingly - no leaks. And since I was working on it over the Canada Day weekend......

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions
I have a 1991 I would like to have restored but lack the resources/skill set to do so. It's up for sale to the highest bidder....Get it before it goes to ebay....or the scrap yard...trim and all. Can find more info @ http://huntsville.craigslist.org/cto/2624256479.html.
And don't those blacked out grills look mean at dusk with the park lights on.... Red with factory chrome mags and gray interior... you look at yourself in the reflection as you drive past glass store fronts. |
