Re: 1969 C10 SWB - Big Block project

Whats going on fellas, just wanted to say thanks for all the compliments. The truck is coming along nicely thanks to my Pop. I kinda forgot how much stuff I had accumulated to go back on it. It will be a nice one once it's finished up but I'll probably be selling it. I have opened my own business and need to focus more time and money into that right now. There may be some 'flippers' come along at some point and honestly I'd like to build another 69 Camaro one day.. but, who knows. I love the older vintage race car look. I may get into SCCA type racing.

I'm just scrambling right now to get this one done and sold. The billets will really set it off.. I may show it a time or two but she'll be moving to her new home pretty soon.

Re: 1969 C10 SWB - Big Block project

We got the C-Notches finished and installed the track bar. Working on the lower shock bar and shocks. Our homemade 4 degree pinion shims work perfect. You just can't beat the quality and fit of Porterbuilt!

Re: 1969 C10 SWB - Big Block project

We got the rear suspension finished up and installed two of the Raceline wheels. Now the truck has some serious attitude!

Next up is the installation of the Camaro gas tank and rear bumper so we can adjust the fill neck for a flip down behind the license plate.

Re: 1969 C10 SWB - Big Block project

We started mocking up the '69 Camaro gas tank this weekend.

We are going to retain the Camaro tank straps to keep a "factory" look. After a lot of head scratching and sketches on dinner napkins, I think we have it figured out.

We picked up some 2"x 1.5" steel tubing from S&H Erectors here in town. Nice guys! All we need to do now is bend up some brackets and put it all together. Updates coming...

Re: 1969 C10 SWB - Big Block project

A little progress today. The gas tank is completely mocked up so locating the Camaro tank straps is next. Once everything is in place it all comes back out for paint and new bolts.

I opened up the license plate bracket to allow access to the filler. Next step after painting the bracket is installing the Monte Carlo flip down.

The two front Raceline Billets will be mounted tomorrow and we can finally get those little wimpy tires off the front.

Looks good Pop!

How far down does the tank hang when viewed from the rear?

Re: 1969 C10 SWB - Big Block project

We were able to get the two front Raceline wheels on yesterday. They really work nice with the CST chrome I think.

The fabricated gas tank brackets for the Camaro gas tank have been etch primed and painted. Once the brackets are dry, the tank can be bolted up for the last time. We are using the factory '69 Camaro tank straps flipped end to end. The factory squeek strips and hardware will be used too.

Then, on to installing the front bumper brackets and bumper.

Re: 1969 C10 SWB - Big Block project

A little progress today... The 8" brake booster arrived from Summit and clears the tall valve covers just fine. The Wilwood master cylinder is on it's way along with a Wilwood Proportional Valve. Stay tuned.

Re: 1969 C10 SWB - Big Block project

After some detective work, I located my old friend "Carb Doc" here in town and talked him into building a 3310 carb for the big block. It has been more than 20 years, but this guy is a master with Holley's. I have attached a list of specs that he needed before he started the rebuild process. I never realized how important it is to match the power valve, jets, accelerator pump shot and fuel/air metering to the exact engine it will be used on.

Re: 1969 C10 SWB - Big Block project

We installed the new front bumper yesterday and it bolted up perfectly. It is an AMD (Auto Metal Direct) bumper and we are really impressed with the quality. The chrome is deep and rich with absolutely no imperfections that we could find. This bumper is much heavier than the repro bumpers we've had. It came complete with the bumper bolts, washers and nuts too.

I did some trading with our body shop owner and got the new Ididit tilt steering column painted the BMW gold color to match the truck. It turned out super nice! Now to get it through the firewall without scratching it.

I know that this spring is a part that holds the jack in place, but exactly how does it attach? Any photos showing how it mounts would be greatly appreciated.
