Where can I find seats?

I'm looking for a bench seat for a '68, and I'm wondering what others are doing if they need to replace a seat completely? I have a frame that I could probably make work with a little fabrication, but that is going to take time that I could spend on something else to get it on the road.

Are there aftermarket seats available for a reasonable price?

LMC has some aftermarket seats, but they are black. I was hoping to go back with the original light blue, and I would actually prefer a stock seat.

I have used TMI on several of the builds throughout the years.
GREAT PRODUCTS

https://www.tmiproducts.com/

You get what you pay for, check their entire site, some initial prices will burn the retinas

I have looked at their stuff before, but like you said, it's pricey! Not saying it's not worth it, but I'm putting it in the context of looking for a stock replacement rather than wanting an updated aftermarket piece.

I suppose the counter argument is most stock seats are going to require recovering and new padding, which is pushes the price on up there, too. Assuming I could even find a factory seat frame in good enough condition.

You could look here for ideas?

Lots of OE swaps.

Seat frames are good projects to build up fabrication skills and you can make custom modifications to give your interior a one of a kind look. Although those usually involve custom upholstery over factory seat covers you install for additional cost savings.

Re: Where can I find seats?

Just installed these last night in my 71 short bed K10. Really like them. They're from Qualatex. The center is a jump seat/ storage console. It also has storage under the center seat.

Re: Where can I find seats?

I put one from a squarebody in mine a couple weeks ago. Used the original brackets ans adapted the seat to them. Fairly easy and there are a lot more squarebody seats out there since they were mad for 15 years instead of 5.

That Qualatex looks quite fantastic. Super duper.

Did the adapter bracket allow everything to bolt in without modification?

Re: Where can I find seats?

Yes, with the exception of the jump seat. I had to drill new holes in the bracket to move it forward slightly due to the fact that I still have my tank in the cab.

Re: Where can I find seats?

That really does seem to be a nice choice. If you get a chance, can you post some more pics? My '70 is a 4spd and was concerned about interference with the jump seat cushion front. I have the factory bench and thinking about going this route.

I found an original bench seat on Craigslist 3 hours away from me a couple of years ago. You should find an original eventually. Mine was complete and in great shape but I had it recovered.

Re: Where can I find seats?

Shifter just clears all but reverse
Reverse works but it is not fully engaged unless I lift the seat back. I will live with it until I relocate the gas tank.

The AACA one in February usually has a great selection of stuff and usually lots of 67-72 parts.

If you don't care about stock, the 88-99 OBS trucks have pretty nice seats that are a bit thinner to get more belly room. I sometimes see decent ones in the pick-a-part here. I have one in a square body, but I hear they fit pretty well in these.

Re: Where can I find seats?

Another option would be SloshTubz, he has a Buddy Bucket setup with a nice fold down armrest/storage bin and has a lower storage bin as well. He sells the frame and foam, would just need the foam shaped and upholstery done

Re: Where can I find seats?

Don't know if this works for you but on my 68 C10 I used 2012 VW GTI seats.
Recline and height adjustment.
They were $350 at a local salvage yard.
They were kind of a dark gray with plaid inserts. Wasn't digging the gray so I sprayed the fabric paint to black. I think they turned out great.
Pic.
