moving forward i began to start routing wires to starter, alternator, coil and eliminating unused wires. to my suprise the factory harness was in excellent condition with a few wires being cracked and brittle.

Any takers on what yellow, green wires are ?

Green is usually temperature sending unit, or horn. Yellow seems to be spliced into red and red in that area could be electric choke, yellow also could go to the starter along with the purple. If infact,the red is pink(which, in gm terms, means 12 volt switched) it could also go to the starter

Follow the wires back, and make sure the colors are correct. I would change the colors back to oringinal, if they are changed. If the wires are brittle, check all the way back where they are wrapped, id replace them. Connecters are available, and part of a safety check should include your electrical harnesses

Do you have a wiring schmatic, if not drop down to the electrical section, look in the stickies for a a colored one

I printed a wiring schematic from the electrical section and it was sure helpful. After doing the engine swap I have a lot less to be connected:

Coil
Starter
Alternator
temp sensor
elec choke

I knew I should have labeled wires as they were removed

This is another pic of the wiring.

Next issue is that engine starts/idles great but falls flat as soon as rpm increases. All vacum lines are plugged/connected and it has clean fuel. Waiting for timing light to come in to check base timing. Not sure if its a little different because of the MSD diet/coil ???

Theres a lot of different ways to eliminate voltage regulator. Not sure what best option will be.

It wouldnt be a project if it wasnt " one step forward, two steps back " . Almost ready to move past the engine and start driving. Base timing set at 10deg, total advance 34deg, idle set at 700rpm. Starts great,idles smooth, no pinking or knocking on throttle but coughs and backfires under quick acceleration. Propane torch found the carb base gasket leaking and an increase of 75-100rpm. Almost unteaceable if it wasnt for the digital timing light. A friend lent it to me and now have to own one.

Comparing to a 72 Suburban these wires are for the emissions that mount on drivers side of intake manifold and are no longer needed. The BROWN/WHITE wire does have keyed 12V so it may come in handy once I check a few other things out.

Checklist to complete this week:

carb intake gasket ( replace )
Lokar billet throttle/kickdown bracket ( install )
Lokar TH350 kickdown cable ( install )
wire alternator, battery, gauges, tach
check coolant hoses for leaks
clutch fan, shroud ( install )
mount seats, seat belts, hood
power steering hoses ( install )

Then double check all fluids, check leaks ( hope none ) then test drive.

Progress has been steady and yesterday was the virgin run. Have to thank the help from guys in our Toyota Club, the TARSAND TOYOTAS. Its amazing how much work can be accomplished with a fridge full of beer, a few pizzas and lots of wings.

All things considered there are very minor details to workout. Engine seems to be running way to rich and is overfueling. It coughs under load and acts like an old worn out 2barrel small block. The brakes need to be bled, and rockers re adjusted but nothin major so far........

the dogs get hunted for sure. After stripping the rubber from origional tank straps I replaced with rubber from outdoor floor mat and used silicone as sealant
